England tried to pass it around against Germany, towards the end of the first half they had the ball for 3-4 minutes, mostly because our wide midfielders are incapable of going down the flank and the ball would go up to them and then it'd end up going backwards back to the keeper. That happened two or three times.

The central midfielders were still often doing their 'trick' of sitting right back on top of the back four, which makes it very difficult to pass it productively without the long ball.

what does Joe Cole have to do to play 90 minutes for club or country, ha it really is funny.

Some really weird subs in the second half so far from McLaren, firstly ok Rio is injured you bring on Wes Brown of all people, put Richards in the centre & take away the attacking threat he was having on the flank. Surely Steve Taylor would have been a better option in the centre.

Taking of Owen also crazy, its not like he has played much this season, but then again i'm going to give McClaren a break with his subs subs given the amount of injuries in the land ATM.
become other than a lightweight player, hes got plenty of tricks, but imo he really isnt a very special player at all. Not a player you would want to turn to when you really had your back against the wall. Mediocre.

Interesting rumors on BBC's gossip news..

Rio Ferdinand has been given two games to prove his commitment to England or he will be dropped in favour of Micah Richards. (Times)

Fuming England boss Steve McClaren will drop Paul Robinson, Michael Carrick and Alan Smith for the Euro 2008 qualifer against Israel. (Sun)

Wonder what Ferdinand has to prove & what Carrick has done to be dropped, but then again they are just rumors.

So the potential Robben move to Real Madrid is off then?

I would say Malouda > Joe Cole.

I would assume Robben is already at Real Madrid by that report. It's leaving me a little bemused though, because just a few days ago the same website was reporting that Robben would be missing from Chelsea for 2 weeks due to injury

EDIT: It wasn't the same site actually, it was on the EPL site, in the preview to the Chelsea/Liverpool match.

nice away win for liverpool although we should have won 4 or 5 - 0 but some quality gal keeping by gordon kept sunderland in the game for a long time.

must say i'm very disappointed to see Robben leave the premiership, Mourinho's sometimes defensive tactics of always taking off Robben & Cole, SWP after they perform a trick too many & constant rotation of them probably frustrated him.

If he had similar treatment to Ronaldo he surely would have been equally of exciting.

Also so strange looking at Arsenal these days not a single established English player around anymore geezzzzz.

Who are the only two players to have played for both AFC Wimbledon and the original Wimbledon FC?

One's pretty easy, the other isn't.

Marcus Gayle & Jermaine Darlington, IIRC.

Remember the latter 'cos he was reason they were deducted 18 points last season.

Indeed. Although he's off somewhere else now, probably wasn't worth the 18 points deduction.

As that was solved pretty easily....

Who is the only player currently registered in the A-League to have played for Mansfield Town?

I'd struggle to name any former Mansfield players in all honesty.

Only know about Greenacre 'cos of CW.

Two most famous in 90s Premiership circles were Kevin Hitchcock and Colin Calderwood, then there was Liam Lawrence for Sunderland a couple of seasons ago.

Surprised that nobody mentioned about Heinze, but that deal wasn't surprising either. Good deals for Chelsea and MU in that both make a profit. Robben has to be one of the few transfers they have made money on since Abramovich brought the club.

Hmm not impressed with Robinson's goalkeeping again, I don't really agree with him being so far off the line - this time for Nani's strike. Even tho he was unsighted and it was deflected slightly it didn't go anywhere near the corner, if a keeper is in a normal position there I'd expect them to save it.

Oh and the Wes Brown one is debatable whether it hit his hand but it certainly wasn't deliberate so there's not even an argument to give a penalty.
