There's the mandatory Calamity James moment.
Quite well known, I'd say. Named after the Spion Kop IIRC.Some trivia for you...
Liverpool's 'Kop' is derived from the word 'Koppie' which is Afrikaans for Hill.. The hill in question is near here, and was commemorated after the Boer War in the form of the Kop at Liverpool football club..
Paucity of other options is my guess. Only legitimate strikers we had on the bench were Crouch (who came on with him) & Defoe, who's about 12th choice down the Spuds nowadays. Why does Dyer keep being played up front when his finishing and brain is so useless?
Theo Walcott would have been better. At least he could have a future.Paucity of other options is my guess. Only legitimate strikers we had on the bench were Crouch (who came on with him) & Defoe, who's about 12th choice down the Spuds nowadays.
Compared to what's gone before I would run it like a dictatorship. Why is Gerrard allowed to play for Liverpool but isn,t for the German game? If it were me I would of told Liverpool that if he is fit to play for Chelsea then is fit to play for England so he should be released, and if they didn't I would give them a big fine. Shouldn't be a problem for the amount of money they splash out for players and for primma donnas inthe past like Cisse and Bellamy.
It should be added I'd probably run it like a dictorship...
TBH I thought it was interesting that Michael Owen would play despite just coming from his major injury woes. Mind you at the rate the English strikers are going down, they will need to bring back Emile Heskey or Francis Jeffers (what club does he play for now? )...Compared to what's gone before I would run it like a dictatorship.
Regarding a friendly like that that's just over a couple of weeks away from the Israel game it's simple. You either show up for the friendly or you've no hope of starting against Israel and very little chance of starting against Russia. Players would actually know if they play well they'll stay in the side and if they don't they're out, Shorey, Micah Richards and Lampard should start against Israel regardless. Wright-Phillips should move up the pecking order above Beckham. Gerrard can get as much hype as he likes from the BBC fanboys he'd still be on the bench.
