TBH, Jones and domestic-First-Class cricket have never mixed. I'd pick him for the First Test if he lasts the time between now and then. He might do well, he might not - there's only one way to find-out. He's never totally convinced me as a Test bowler - I wait to see.
Me either, ITBT, but he's gone a long way further to doing so than Harmison, Mahmood or Plunkett have, so he's a must-pick if he's fit.

Good to see you've admitted Ireland are in fact a domestic side.
Well, the "Ireland" that plays in the C&G Trophy quite obviously is, but it's not a representative side. Saqlain played in it last year IIRC. The "Ireland" that is currently playing in the World Cup though is quite obviously an international side - and this is mirrored by the fact that it gains players it has not contracted for the C&G Trophy as well as losing players that it has playing in the C&G - due to eligibility issues.

I really don't see the argument there.

The argument is that while one exists, the other will always struggle.

And no-one is ever going to change the fact that the domestic side exists.

The ECB has a policy that allows players not playing for their county release so they can represent their european team, case in point jon blain last season, gavin hamilton the year before.
So niall o'brien could represent 2 sides this year.

Trouble is, the C&G group stage means Northants and Ireland will be playing at the exact same time.

No, they only released them for Internationals - not an ECB policy.

The one in the C&G is a domestic side, yes, like the other sides in the C&G they're entitled to play foreigners etc.

The one in the World Cup is an International side - they get to pick from all the available players of their nationality.

But the authority organising the teams is the same, regardless of the regulations govorning players involved.

So what?

The teams are completely different, as shown by the different players playing, because last time I checked, Saqlain and Afridi weren't playing for Ireland in the World Cup...

The aim, is it not, is the same? The Ireland Cricket Board wish their players, as many as possible, to play? Even they do take the opportunity when it's offered to employ Pakistanis.

If that were the case, they'd all be playing for them, but they're quite clearly not, because the Ireland C&G side is a domestic side.

Except that that's nothing to do with the Irish Cricket Board - it's to do with the players who feel they're better off playing for a county... wonder why that might be, now...

1. So they can play first class cricket
2. Money

Plus the one you are clearly alluding to - the chance to eventually play for England.
