The thing is, Lee's often good at the death, because his angles aren't all over the (wrong) place like Tait's. Tait might as well throw the ball at the boundaries himself the way he lets them help it on its way.
Lee's often a good death bowler when there isn't a set batsman in, and the opposition are batting first and hence not knowing what they need to chase.

Lee can be a horrid death bowler if any decent batsman is in, and the opposition know they need 7, 8 or 9 an over. He can be downright woeful sometimes, bowling short outside off and gifting boundaries, and then he bowls wides for fun.

Bracken and McGrath (though he was ordinary today) are generally the best death bowlers in Australia fairly comfortably, and I never understand why Ponting bowls Lee from overs 46-50.

well u said sorta felt the intensity wasnt there... i mean.. Symos misfields..cmon lol

anyways im sorta excited about this... as it means White will most definately get a bat unless we really bat well the top 6

if we lose, it means the England vs New Zealand battle will go on and i dont mind that either... all this is practice and its good to hav practice chasing a large total...

watchout for Plunkett with the new ball could get some swing :O

With a little more control he might make a good test strike bowler, as it stands I'd only play him at the MCG with no ropes and the outfield slanting up in every direction.
Lee's a much better death bowler these days than he used to be, which is why I said "Lee of a few years ago". He's a lot more disciplined these days and uses the bouncer a bit more sparingly. Tait's obviously a very good death bowler when he's getting the ball to reverse, but he was pretty average today.

well Joyce's hundred has at least given England one settled opening spot & possibly a stable opening partnership with Loye. But then again if Vaughan does make it to the WC where will he bat?. But good to see some headaches in the selection of the ODI side, before todays game a lot was unknown. So a possible 15 could be:

Joyce
Vaughan
Bell
KP
Collingwood
Freddie
Dalrymple
Nixon/Read
Lewis
Anderson
Panesar

Loye
Strauss
Mahmood
Plunkett/Tremlett

On Tait, he really has the tools to come good in the ODI arena one day, but he's too unpredicatable at this stage, next game he might well & run through the Kiwis & we would have seen both sides of him. But don't think he should go the WC, the big 5 are secured.

See, i'd have said he's deteriorated. I thought he was much better around 2002/3 than now. Last time England toured he had some great late spells. From memory his worst death bowling has often been in recent games, when defending large scores. But memory of one day games tend to run together after a while.

Tait and Clark poor with the ball today for mine, Tait very poor in the field.
Thought the exact same thing. Tait was very very poor in the field. 2/68 off 10 overs just isn't good enough at International level but we can use the excuse it was his debut, i guess.

About time we saw a cricket game on this tour. Hussey hasn't been out in ODI at Sydney, lets see if it continues again tonight.

What the **** is wrong with Hodge?? He makes 400 million runs against every state in the country and comes out to play where he belongs and buggers up.

Still hurting from being dropped after a double century probably. Will never play again. That's the end.

With Gilly out, England have become clear favourites at 1.66, to Australia 2.10
Australia a reasonable bet IMO. England's ODI bowling attack isn't the best. Wouldn't be any worse than a 50/50 call just yet.

edit: Haha, and there goes Hodge. Alright, England favourites now, especially if Mahmood is swinging the ball too.

Comeon guys don't be so critical of tait, its just his first game and its not that he was blasted all over the park half of the runs of his bowling came of edges. But still on a flat deck his effort was not horrible considering that all the other aussie bowlers looked below par. He will always be expensive but there would be hardly be any games where he goes wicketless.
