A great game to watch.
India’s batting FINALLY came together. Great start from Gambhir (who always looks impressive to me, for some reason or the other. Does throw away starts but doesn’t seem to struggle as much as some of our other openers have done and always scores at a brisk pace, even by current standards) and Ganguly. Lovely to see Ganguly back to his old ways at the top of the order. Sachin played a neat little innings there in the middle and as Dravid has pointed out, the way we played the middle overs as compared to the Windies is probably where we won the match. Dravid and Dhoni blazed to the finish. With Dhoni, you expect such a knock, esp. on such a track and under familiar conditions but Dravid was unbelievable.
The Windies wont lose heart either. They fought all the way, even though they have been out of match practice now while the Indians weren’t. Felt Lara could have batted at 4 rather than 5 (still think Samuels’ innings cost them the game). But, as he himself said, not a bad effort considering they were only off the flight 48 hours ago. This is gonna be one interesting series.
And I have to agree with Liam here. Given the conditions which are loaded in favour of batsmen, and given that none of our benched bowlers are exactly world class, why take a risk and pick them? After all, a Joginder could go for the same 70-80 as a Sachin on such tracks. I would rather keep the same side and maybe pick Joginder instead of AA, perhaps….
