Oram, and Styris are apparently coming in for the 4th game that NZ plays. I heard that Mills is only bowling at half pace for Auckland and is not expected to be fit for the entire series.
Makes it easy then Oram for Franklin and Styris for McMillan.

Australia just simply too good in all aspects.

Bowled well, batted well, Ponting captained brilliantly. And to top that off our two best ODI bowlers were missing.

....I think he will make his Test debut next season and will do well if he gets the chance to play County Cricket.....
I cannot let that go. Of what value would it be to an up and coming NZ player to play County Cricket? Far better to play Pura Cup here in Australia.

$ value for one.
In the short term. If an NZ player wants to be the best he wants to play at the highest level and whether that is in Australia, India or wherever that is the place to go. At present I don't think English County Cricket will see Kiwi players pushed as they need to be to excel.

NZ did well in two parts of the game: Coming back from the Gilchrist/Hayden opening blitz and from being 2/10.
Yeah, NZ showed good fight at times, something only KP has really done for England this summer consistently. I think that without KP England will crumble against NZ.

I was impressed with Patel's bowling today too, looked like a solid OD bowler. Should be a good addition to Bond and Vettori.

This might sound strange because we got slaughtered but im quite positive about this result. Taylor did well and showed a bit of skill. I was always confident that he had the ability to compete at this level but I was worried if he got a string of low scores he might lose a bit of confidence or get a Sinclair type mental block. With a decent score he should have got the confidence and belief that he can compete at international level.

The middle and lower order collapse was terrible but we know that our middle order of Styris and Oram is injured at the moment and so was always going to be weak today without them.

Im getting a bit worried about McCullum opening. At first I had an open mind and was willing to give him a chance, but he will have 1 or two more chances and if he fails, the calls will start coming for him to go back down.

Im worried that there is not enough time to blood Jesse Ryder before the world cup, imo he is clearly the next best option to open the batting. Ryder is just as talented as Taylor if not more so, and I think he should be in the team. The important thing for me with Ryder is that he regularly bowls 10 overs for Wellington. So with him, Astle, and Styris being able to bowl then that can be our 5th bowler, and we can stack our batting,.. Hes a lefty so it will also give us a left-right hand opening partnership.

We need experience in the middle order so Fleming at 4 is best. Experience opening with Astle and experience at 6 and 7 with Styris and Oram.

Taylor seems the goods at 3 and so the top order looks a lot stronger with him there. If our lower order recovers from their injuries then with Taylor improving our top order, it doesnt look that bad.

Ryder ( bat, bowl a little)
Astle (bat, bowl a little)
Taylor (bat)
Fleming (bat)
Fulton (bat)
Styris (bat , bowl a little)
Oram ( all rounder)
McCullum ( Wicketkeeper)
Vettori (bowling all rounder)
Bond (bowl)
Gillespie (bowl)

the only thing I might worry about is there might not be enough quality bowling. There are plenty of bowling options but maybe too many part timers. Anyway, that teams middle order wont collapse like the one today did. Much more quality much further down. That was a really long tail for NZ so its no surprise we fell over so easily. Our batting line up is one of the poorest in the world. We cant afford to have a long tail.

ffs how uneducated were the channel 9 commentary team about NZ.

Ian Healy is a complete ****wit. How was he a successful test cricketer? He comes across as a poorly educated cricket fan watching the game on the couch at home.

He pretty much ignored everything NZ did and when Taylor got injured said 'beauty' and then said something like 'Australian fans will be loving this, first Pieterson now NZ's best batsman is injured'... wtf? Why would he say that? What good does it do the series having the two in form batsmen from the opposition sides on the sidelines. I am sure even the Aussies will agree that competitive cricket is much more interesting to watch (even occasionaly, just for a change) than walkover after walkover.

Anyway, I thought we played pretty well actually and apart from our batting colapse it was an enjoyable competitive game of cricket. Australia certainly didn't have it all their own way.

Bond was unlucky throughout and finally got some luck and even more than he deserved with his hattrick.

Taylor was brilliant and it was good to see Fleming actually make double figures. As soon as Taylor went the game was over. Vettori only bats well when the pressure is off it seems and is probably a number 9 in ODI cricket. We won't challenge Australia chasing in this tournament with the tail we have got.

Kyle Mills is a under rated cricketer and we are missing him lots. He has been our best bowler for at least the last year. Swap him for Franklin and we have an awesome line up of ODI bowlers imo.

Oh and Cameron White was absolutely plumb to Vettori when he was on about 7. Dead and buried. It could have made a big difference to the aus score but I doubt it would have affected the overall result.

Bonds hat-trick was an over to late. The damage had already been done in his previous over.
obviously it would have been preferable had he been able to do it in the 48th, but to come back and take a hattrick after being hit for 22 the over before isn't bad, especialy considering he isn't even bowling very well...

Only the third hattick in ODI's played in Australia I think I heard, and the 22nd or 23rd (it's somewhere in the 20's) ever, out of a couple of thousand games.

was it this one ?

42.6 Vettori to White, 1 leg bye, tossed up on middle and off, doesnt spin away much, White tries to sweep and gets rapped in front of middle, they all go up in appeal but Rauf shakes the head, too high probably, and he was very far forward....hmmm....but a damn good shout
