I wouldn't go in without a fifth bowler.Akram @ # 7 gives the Pakistan batting too long of a tail IMO. Don't think he was ever good enough of a batsman in test cricket in that postion to handle top-quality attacks.
Would rather have Mo Yo @ # 6 in even if Pakistan only have Imran/Wasim/Waqar/Qadir, which at their best would give any batting line-up great worries.
Currently, you have Imran @ 38, Akram @ 23 and Bari @ 16 at 6-7-8. Don't you think that's a bit on the weak side for an all-time XI? Rashid Latif, perhaps?I wouldn't go in without a fifth bowler.
No Nyadu or Nawab of Pataudi(jr)?an indian alltime test xi:
sunil gavaskar
vinoo mankad
rahul dravid
sachin tendulkar
gundappa vishwanath
dilip vengsarkar
kapil dev
syed kirmani
erapalli prasanna
bishan bedi
anil kumble
kapil and mankad(srinath is india's second best pacer but in my opinion he is pretty average and i don't want to throw in a fast bowler just for the sake of convention) to open the bowling and then three exceptional spinners...people like merchant and hazare were fine batsmen no doubt but in terms of accomplishment at the international level, i don't think they reached the level of vishy and venky....couple of people who are unfortunate not to make the team in my opinion are subhash gupte and bhagwat chandrasekhar, but this would be a pretty good team....
Yeah, good point. My revised XI then:Currently, you have Imran @ 38, Akram @ 23 and Bari @ 16 at 6-7-8. Don't you think that's a bit on the weak side for an all-time XI? Rashid Latif, perhaps?
No chance at all. There might be a case for Saqlain to be in that team in place of Qadir. Just my personal opinion though.
Depends on where they're playing. At home, Qadir was devastating, but was mediocre overseas so I'll go with Saqlain there. There might be a case for Saqlain to be in that team in place of Qadir. Just my personal opinion though.
The fifth bowler really just depends on the conditions for mine. It could be between Qadir, Saqlain, Nawaz depending on the pitch. Why not play 5 fast bowlers just?
Hmm i don't know, but based on what i saw of Laif & Moin i certainly would pick Moin. But i guess that would be a matter of personal preference.Yeah, good point. My revised XI then:
Pakistan:
Saeed Anwar
Haneef Muhammad
Zaheer Abbas
Javed Miandad
Inzamam-Ul-Haq
Imran Khan*
Rashid Latif+
Wasim Akram
Abdul Qadir
Waqar Younis
Fazal Mahmood
I feel there were others who would give Ponting a run for his money and are probably better overall.I'm sorry but how does Ponting not make every single person on here's first XI for Australia?
He's got more centuries than any other Australian in test matches for gods sake...And he's pretty much going to break every other Australian record standing today. Ridiculous.
Not quite. But regardless, has Waugh done that much less? Plus Waugh was a better captain and a more steely leader IMO.Ponting can only face what he's given...and he's achieved brilliant results against every nation that has bowled to him. At least 1 century against every test playing nation. Ponting certainly deserves a spot in the Australian all-time XI. Without a doubt in the world. As I said, he'll break pretty much every Australian record there is. There should always be a place for someone that good.
True, but thats they key factor that may gave someone like Waugh or Border a slight edge over him. Not to say that Ponting if he had played in the same period as Waugh or Border when bowling attacks & the world wide was at a far higher quality & the wasn't so many flat decks than the period Ponting has dominated world bowling & acclaimed worldwide as the best batsman i.e 2001 to now he couldn't have achieved similar or greater success since he showed with his 156 @ old trafford that in testing conditions againts a quality attack if exposed to it enough he has the game to score runs (although some may argue that England's attack was as good as some of the 90's but thats a different argument all-together).Ponting can only face what he's given...and he's achieved brilliant results against every nation that has bowled to him. Ponting at 2nd drop? A few other names come to mind...G.Chappell, Neil Harvey to name a few.....Gilchrist as keeper ahead of Tallon,Grout and Marsh??? You're game sunshine.1 Hayden
2 Morris
3 Bradman
4 Ponting
5 S. Waugh
6 Border
7 Gilchrist
8 Warne
9 Lillee
10 O'Reilly
11 McGrath
Don't see how it's ridiculous at all really, you are aware that there is over 100 years of rich Australian cricket history, not just the past 10 or so you have been watching for. To have Chappell, Harvey, Waugh or Border ahead of him really isn't ridiculous at all, especially with his career far from over.I'm sorry but how does Ponting not make every single person on here's first XI for Australia?

I knew It wouldn't be long till someone bought up India. Let's face it thought, his record everywhere else is outstanding, his record in India is a mere abberation. Not quite. But regardless, has Waugh done that much less? Plus Waugh was a better captain and a more steely leader IMO.
