Worst Ever Players

he did get a couple of opportunities against india in 2002 and failed, and then got 2 more against zim in 2003 where he failed miserably yet again. against australia he got 4 chances and only averaged 17. quite frankly hes not good enough at test level and even if he scores a century against every visiting team in england i would still be reluctant to pick him
I wasnt aware that he played against India....

Anyway, his average doesnt really tell the story agianst Australia. He lloked and 'felt' as sound as any of the other English batmen (except for Vaughan), and although he didnt get a big score, he played quite well.

I think he deserves another chance, but only if Collingwood and Strauss fail.

Spofta is a Rikki Clarke fan (apart from being the world's first successfully surviving brain transplant donor)

Luckyeddie has far too much to say for himself. Most of the stuff that comes out of his mouth is crap. I spose when your an england fan you get that way when trying to make excusses for their average side who always dissapoints. I would have to say the worst cricketer to play test cricket would be Bruce Morrison

Very harsh. I could easily think of some people on this board to whom the above applies, but not good old Eddie.

Morrison was a much better player than Joe McMaster (who?).

If he keeps getting runs, and Pietersen, Clarke, Wagh and Joyce all fail as well, then perhaps, although then we'll be moving on to Newman, Cook and Gidman, or possibly Shafayat.

Key is going to have to score absolutely massively in domestic cricket to move up from his current place in the pcking order, which is about 12th in line of succession.

Anyway, to go back to the original subject, the worst Test player I ever saw was Ehteshamuddin of Pakistan, who played at Headingley in 1982. Though it has to be said that a number of us who saw the 1982 game were recalling him with pleasure as we watched Dewald Pretorius bowling there last year and tried to work out whether he was actually worse than dear old Ehters. In the end, we thought the rotund Asian gentleman had slightly more general qualifications as a comedy act and allowed him to retain the palm. Of England players I've watched, I can't really make up my mind between Mike Smith's terrible bowling and Aftab Habib's grotesque batting.

Cheers,

Mike

How was Mike Smith anywhere near as bad as Dawson/Schofield/Sailsbury/Sidebottom? He was a quality swing bowler.

Not on the one Test he played - the word "nightmare" was designed for that situation.

Everyone has bad games he was probably nervous as it was his debut. As a matter of fact he was a far better bowler than many others selected in recent years.

he was a quality COUNTY bowler, but if your saw him in that test, you could see he wasnt anywhere near test standard

Problem being the Donor switched it for a bread roll at the last minute!

IIRC didn't he have a catch dropped early in his first spell?
He did. It was Thorpe, and he dropped Elliott, which would have left Aus on 56-5. And thus did the Ashes disappear.

Cheers,

Mike

Seriously mate, grow up and leave us alone if all you can bother doing is insulting the valued members of CW.

He has made well over since 4,000 posts since December 2001, how is that having no life?

Actually Tim would have to be one of (if not) the most knowledgeable people on New Zealand cricket in my time here.
