Richard is right on Sami, the guy is CRAP, a loose cannon with no direction. Lee has the ability to do well in test matches in future, Sami on the other hand will soon be out of international cricket (hopfully for Pak)
Sami is only good against one team - and as Murphy's Law will have it, it's my team.

Sami's ODI average is ridiculously flattering and even then it's still plain poor combined with his appalling economy-rate.

Good batsman, not quite as good as his Test and ODI records make him look.

Hugely overhyped.

Very very good player already, should be around for ages.

Huge ODI prospect, not so sure in Tests.

Hamish? Xavier? Xavier haven't a clue, Hamish very good ODI player already, quite possibly a Test prospect too.

Appalling bowler, needs to do some serious work if he wants to make the grade.

Great Test prospect.

Superb ODI batsman, very useful bowler in the right conditions. No use at either in Tests.
Agreed on most except, clarke and malinga, firstly malinga if u saw his test deput in darwin last july he was very impressive taking for wickets in on of the innings and in the preceding home series sri lamka had againts south africa in the test he played in colombo he trouble all the south african batsmen, he is one of the huge talents of sri lankan cricket u better not let chaminda see that post cause u wont hear the end of it, Now Pup he is not overhyped he is rately highly due to what he has done, he a sparkling start to ODI carrer and had a superb debut series in India and his performances at home this summer and over in new zealand have been good its just like when mark waugh and ricky ponting came on the scene he talent just excites everyone

Have you even seen him play yet? You didn't watch the series in India right? And you aren't watching the current New Zealand series... did you see the Australian summer? Have you seen his magnificent ODI performances?

He's hyped, but overhyped implies that he's not good enough to deserve said hype, and I'd say pretty definitively that he is, just like Strauss and Kaneria.
Overhyped means his performances have not matched the mark you'd think they had given the euphoria.
Clarke's been stunning in ODIs of late.
But a Test-match average of 45.64 is below par in the current Australian side. All the rest have averaged much higher than that in the last 4 years, and most have outdone it in Clarke's career-period.
And yes, I have seen him play. I've seen him batter NZ's excuse for an attack and struggle against Pakistan's 2 decent bowlers.
As for Strauss, he's very much underhyped, when was the last time a player had such a sensational first 12 Tests? I'll confess even I'm dumbfounded as to how he's done quite so well (I expected him to be a success, but not to anywhere near this degree), and that perhaps explains it.
Kaneria I've only recently realised just how hyped he has been these last 6 years, and certainly I think he's got the potential to be an incredibly good bowler, but right now if anyone's calling him better than fairly ordinary they're over-hyping him.

What evidence has there been of Bond bowling alot slower? According to papers & the like here in NZ, batsmen who have faced him so far believe he's bowling as quick as he was before his back injury in 2003.
Batsmen have said both "he's the same" and "he's lost pace".
And either of them have precisely equal chance of being right, because they're all as poor as each other at judging.
We won't know until he gets clocked again.

You mean the kid who knows how to save his head while facing a bouncer but don't know the basic fact to keep the bat down?

The way he fared in the first test, chances are that he will have a poor series.
Because Tests have so much to do with ODIs?

Lee is bowling 160 km's with incredible accuracy. I think he's got to be in the playing 11 for the Ashes, because he will be a SERIOUS threat to the English.
If Lee plays in The Ashes we stand an outside-chance.

Sami vs NZ: 14 wickets at 35.07
Sami vs The Rest: 36 wickets at 52.41
The real killer is this:
Sami vs NZ: 2 devestating spells in 8
Sami vs The Rest: 2 better-than-terrible spells in 26

come on richard we are both england supporters, but come on if lee plays in this bowling form they're will be even more pressure on england to reclaim the ashes and thats a fact

We'll be under pressure to reclaim The Ashes whether Lee plays or not.
It'll make it a little bit less of an onerous task if he does, however.

nahhhhhhh mate, if lee continues to bowl like this and forces kasper out the side and plays our task will be more onerous, not less

I fail to see how the new Brett Lee bowling accurately at 160 km's is going to make it any easier!

It won't - it's just if that happens something that hasn't happened at least for 4 years (possibly never) will happen!

Only if Lee bowls one hell of a lot better than he has bowled in the last 4 years (or possibly ever).

why are relating to what he has done i the past right now he is arguably at his peak, richard be a good lad and just admit that it will be tougher on england

Kasprowicz, too, is unarguably at his peak and his Test-match figures (the fact that he's attained what Lee has never come close to attaining) suggest that he'll cause far more problems if he gets the chance.
What I'm most worried about is if he comes back in The Third Test with a point to prove.

You seem to have this deficiency in judging players where you refuse to acknowledge that they are any good until they've already proven it time and again, and even in some cases you refuse to do it then (eg: McGrath). Kaneria is undoubtedly a top quality leg spinner, and if he keeps bowling the way he is now he will have a great career. The fact that his average doesn't yet reflect how well he has been bowling doesn't mean much. He's currently in the second leg of the two toughest places to bowl spin after all, and he's given a decent account of himself so far - against Australia's reasonably proficient batting lineup against spin on flat wickets and against India's awesome players of spin on turning wickets.

The likes of Clarke, Kaneria and Strauss could have massive form slumps and fail of course, but given that they are quality players it's not particularly likely, in fact I would suggest that at least Clarke and Kaneria will only go up from here. If you want overhyped, look at Sami or Harmison, or perhaps Pathan from those who are calling him the best pacer in the world already.
