Will Geriant Jones become the new Gilchrist?

He's made a good start to his test career, seems to be able to score at a good rate, plus his keeping isn't that bad.

Would be nice for England fans if in five years he'd played 50 tests, and had an average of 60. Can't quite see it happening though?.

hes been very impressive, however he does need to work on a few areas of his batting.....especially his cutting because he seems to throw his bat at anything wide and fails to keep it down. nothing that a bit of experience wont do,as it did for flintoff.
however he does have all the shots in the book and i look forward to see both him and flintoff counter attacking australia at 140/5.

More than likely not - or should that be 'less than likely so', because such talk is as out of place as the usual 'Irfan Pathan to replace Kofi Annan as Secretary General of the UN' rubbish we had recently.

He's got a couple of things in common with Churchy, of course - a real slugger with the bat and not as impressive as he ought to be behind the sticks.

Could be the new Stewie -IF he improves his keeping-I think that in 2006/07 he could get in for his batting.

Has anyone said that Jones (the unproven one showing a lot of promise) is better than Gilchrist (the proven performer)?

Didn't think so, in fact the initial poster said he didn't think so - it is just speculation, rather than a statement.

And Jones' keeping isn't the best, but he's the better keeper in this game!

And comparing Irfan Pathan with Harmison is supposed to be OTT! 8-)
Well, seeing as everyone said 'unlikely', including the person who started the thread, the comparison with the comparison (!?!) of Pathan v Harmison is misplaced.

Well have to say on this performance he's looking extremely good, it took Gilchrist a few years to develop into the player he is. Plus he's scoring at well over 4 and over. So who knows, I'm sure he'll get a good run in the side. What with Strauss England really have uncovered 2 gems.

In the other thread Pathan was in some ppl's opinion nowhere near Harmo and the comparison was OTT, then what is this? Why speculate this mega mismatch then?

Difference is that this is nothing more than speculation rather than actually claiming it's so!

Well there was a 'Can Pathan be as good as Wasim' thread, which was merely speculation, and that too was supposed to be OTT..

Only a fool could possibly equate the following two statements as equivalent...

1. Irfan Pathan warrants comparison with Steve Harmison at the moment
2. Geraint Jones does not warrant comparison with Adam Gilchrist at the moment.

I refuse to speculate how many would
a) agree with both
b) disagree with both
c) agree with one - and which one.

How's that for a diplomatic answer?

(Chicane's reply in 5....4....3.... "You swine, calling me a fool...") :D

'Tis a bit odd that we are all saying that it isn't likely to happen and yet the people who are paid to talk about cricket are making comparisons along those lines already.

They don't always talk crap so you never know......
