Taylor and Slater were better players against the moving ball than either Warner or Khawaja imo, though Khawaja is an excellent slow wicket player and Warner is awesome here. Obviously any match up will be in Aus so the openers sort of balance each other out.

if Boon is at three he’s every bit as good as Labushagne, if it’s Langer then Marnus is better.

Smith = Steve Waugh of the period in issue where he was averaging about 60, Mark Waugh shades Head.

Any specialist bat at six from the 90s side is better than Green, especially if it’s Ponting.

Healy is better than Carey, especially with the gloves - he’s about as good a wicket keeper as has ever played the game tbh.

warne obviously miles better than lyon

Cummins = McGrath or minutely worse than him

Gillespie and Starc is closer than people would think, but Haze is better than any of Reiffel or Fleming.

Player for player it’s quite close but at the end of the day Taylor’s side knocked over the Windies away and that probably gives it to them. If the current side wins in India (most unlikely) they would deserve to be considered as good as the late 90s team, especially given they’ll easily trounce the current England aide away, just as the 90s teams used to.

aussies will lose easily. the return of jofra archer, anderson, the pace of mark wood, and Woakes(very good in seam conditions). In those specific Duke Ball conditions, unplayable, ball seaming and swinging everywhere.

Its impossible to win an away series atm, every side is dominant in their own conditions, even windies/SAF are good at home.

Plus England has a Kiwi genius overseeing the coaching. His name is Jeetan Patel.

Will be a decent contest either way.

Yeah, Cummins averaging 19 in England and Haze 23 really won’t stand a chance will they?

It’s nice for England to be optimistic because they’re usually such a dreary and pessimistic people (understandable given the climate and the food over there) but honestly, this series is not going to be close. I was far more ambivalent about Aus chances in 2019 than now, and england only drew that series because Smith was concussed and the entire side was still on the piss at the Oval.

Anderson and Broad another four years older and slower, incapable of playing 5 tests. Archer a supposed nemesis but didn’t get Smith out once. Wood unsuited to home conditions and Woakes, honestly I hope he plays every test. Lyon walks over Leach as a spinner and Englands batting, Root and Stokes aside, is utterly unproven against a decent attack. It’s done.

Seriously, get on Aus now. They are absolute living certainties. England aren’t playing a half rat power Pakistan without any bowlers on featherbeds or an SA side which can’t hold a bat. It’s already over. It won’t even be close. Honestly haven’t been this confident about an Ashes series since 1993. Home and hosed.

Current side wouldnt win a single game. The basic reason is the late Shane Warne and Glenn Mcgrath. Sheer genius. you do realise this OP? how is this even a question??
Taylor's side was notorious for losing dead rubber tests.

honestly i'm a lot more scared of the suddenly fit and focussed robinson than i am either of wood or woakes lol
