hm fairWas talking about Tendulkar in 90s.
Context? He won us the first test in 1993 vs Pakistan after we got rolled for 120. He won us the test vs South Africa in 1992 after we set them 200 odd to chase, and they were 100+ with 2 wickets down. He won us the series away to Australia and home vs England in 1994. He nearly repeated the same vs Australia away in 1997 but missed the crucial 4th test. SL very well may have beaten us at home in 1997 were it not for Ambrose etc etc etc. He had some poor and middling performances in between because he's human like everyone else, including Sachin. What the hell more context do you want.Blind average reading again. Check the context of the series to see how he did in the 90s.
Bro I already conceded on SA. Ambrose did well in the 90s.Context? He won us the first test in 1993 vs Pakistan after we got rolled for 120. Yes the 4 for in the first innings of that series did you miss my post or something. Also don't see why you're so hung up on Pakistan. Ambrose won us a series vs Australia in Australia, Sachin has nothing close to that. Oh wait he does, he made 400 odd in a series vs Warne and the mighty Gavin Robertson and Kasper. Please.Notice how you are able to zero in on a single key Ambrose performance to consider his 93 series salvageable, yet Tendulkar plays an ATG innings in his 99 series against Pakistan and you dismiss that series.
Anyways Ambrose was quiet the rest of the 93 series like Tendulkar in 99.
Because you made the silly point that because Tendulkar did lesser against a top era team ergo Ambrose is better. Whereas Ambrose is in the same zone against Pakistan. So take back that point and focus on better arguments. Also don't see why you're so hung up on Pakistan.
Lol Ambrose's record vs Pakistan was better than Sachin's vs RSA. Averaging 24 isn't poor for a bowler nor is sr of 60 odd. It's at worst mediocre. 33 average for a batsman is poor, otherwise, give it a rest with the Lara sucked in the 90s vs Donald. Because 33 is about what he also averaged.Bro I already conceded on SA. Ambrose did well in the 90s.
You made it a point to target Tendulkar against SA but I argue Ambrose against Pak wasn't qualitatively much better really. 90 great series, 93 middling series (yes with that 1st test, two quiet tests after that) and 97 horrible series.
I won't, you donot get to dictate what points people choose and not choose to argue. What the hell is wrong with you?? They both have fabulous 90s records, nothing wrong with highlighting how they did vs the best. You've literally done it b4 in other debates. Get a damn grip!!!Because you made the silly point that because Tendulkar did lesser against a top era team ergo Ambrose is better. Whereas Ambrose is in the same zone against Pakistan. So take back that point and focus on better arguments.
If you want to call Ambrose vs Pak mediocre, then he basically has one team he underperformed against relatively, same as Sachin. So your original argument is now invalid.Lol Ambrose's record vs Pakistan was better than Sachin's vs RSA. Averaging 24 isn't poor for a bowler nor is sr of 60 odd. It's at worst mediocre. 33 average for a batsman is poor, otherwise, give it a rest with the Lara sucked in the 90s vs Donald. Because 33 is about what he also averaged.
Sangakkara only played half the decade in 2010s, and he was pretty good during that but nothing extraordinary I'd say. Would put a couple others aheadWinner | Runner up format
1950s – Len Hutton | Keith Miller and Jim Laker (IDK, Lindwall regressed after 1953 Ashes)
1960s – Garfield Sobers | Fred Trueman and Alan Davidson
1970s – Viv Richards | Dennis Lillee, Greg Chappell and Sunil Gavaskar
1980s – Imran Khan | Malcolm Marshall and Richard Hadlee
1990s – Curtly Ambrose | Sachin Tendulkar, Wasim Akram and Shane Warne
2000s – Glenn McGrath | Muttiah Muralitharan and Jack Kallis
2010s – Steven Smith | Dale Steyn and Kumar Sangakkara
2020s – Jasprit Bumrah | Joe Root and Pat Cummins
The Sanga hate prevails smhSangakkara only played half the decade in 2010s, and he was pretty good during that but nothing extraordinary I'd say. Would put a couple others ahead
Smith and Steyn clearly top 2 imo. Ashwin would be third for me and I'd put kohli 4thKohli must have been close to making it for the 2010s
I would put Ashwin there as well given the lack of representation for the strongest 2010 side.Smith and Steyn clearly top 2 imo. Ashwin would be third for me and I'd put kohli 4th
I also think we can make a case Murali did better than McGrath in the 2000s.Sangakkara only played half the decade in 2010s, and he was pretty good during that but nothing extraordinary I'd say. Would put a couple others ahead
Actually I would agree. Especially given Viv played half the decade and was really prolific for 2 calendar years in Tests.Lillee could be number 1 for 1970s.
Yeah Chappell also has a good case over Viv for that decadeActually I would agree. Especially given Viv played half the decade.
