Yes, let's start taking things out, why don't we...starting from the year 1976 from Viv. Oh look at that...
Never said take out anything.

But I see you guys are having a ball, so carry on.

But none of that takes away from Sunny being seen as a fair weather merchant. But cash in he could.

Apart from Barry Richards' superlative abilities as an opening batsman, I believe there are two obvious Freudian reasons for why @kyear2 is enamoured by him: firstly, Barry shares the same surname as Viv, and secondly, he played for the same county as Marshall. kyear2's subconscious sees Barry Richards as some sort of ideal amalgam of Viv and Maco (the ultimate attacking batsman and the ultimate attacking bowler) merged together into the one human. In the deepest, darkest recesses of kyear2's fertile imagination, he doesn't see Barry as having played just four Tests but rather, 121 + 81 = 202 Tests which is 2 more than Sachin, making Barry the most capped cricketer in history so more than proven.
You know, if I were literally the only person who rated Barry highly or saw him as a top tier batsman this would faze me.

But I see today the circus is in town.

Does anything?
Not particularly

As per the criticism referenced in the last 2 pages...

Sachin, very arguably the 3rd best batsman ever, I just just think that he's that far ahead of the next few guys behind him. Even when he played it was touch and go vs Lara, and I rate Viv and Smith above Lara. Yes he gets points for longevity, but anywhere approaching 18 to 20 years is more than good enough. What I find ridiculous is how Subz piles onto to Lara for his Pak and SA record while Sachin's isn't exactly stellar either.

For Sunny there's no doubt that he's an ATG, but definitely not in the conversation or tier for best after Bradman. He wasn't the best bat of his era, in either decade, and it can be argued he wasn't ever no 2 either. He did stat pad vs '71 WI and during the WSC years, and there's been a lot of revisionist history of late where he is seen to be close to Viv. At no point in his career was that the case. It certainly wasn't in the 70's and he and Greenidge were basically on par in the 80's.

Re Barry, the chorus can sing as kindly as they desire, he was an ATG and yes, for the first half of the 70's the best batsman in the world. Even in the late 70's when Packer was looking for the best players and brought in guys from all over the world, it was guys like Imran and Barry he brought in.

He's been called the best batsmen ever witnessed by players, umpires and pundits alike and interns of talent and play he's comparable to Tendulkar, Richards, Lara, Smith and Sobers. I've never used his test record to prove his greatness, it's how he played the best bowlers in the world when he faced them. His performances vs touring test teams, his record vs Lillee, Thompson, Snow, Procter etc..., his head to head vs Greenidge and testimonials vs all who saw him.

When he played in the same era as Sunny, no one thought Sunny his superior, why does that change now?

So no, the silly and petty quibbles and jabs doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Some of the unintelligible statements about Sobers not being far from Bradman as a batsman etc is deliberately taken out of context and just idiotic, so it bothers me not. The trolls will troll.
