I think Anderson still suffers from people judging him from his overall career.Which is where Styen trumps him.Steyn has had the much better career, but Anderson has become top quality in the last 2 years. But the 'average' tag he had for his initial years still plays on people's minds IMO.

So glad that someone wrote that article. Completely vindicates what I've been saying regarding the Anderson v Steyn question.

If Steyn had averaged 27 in the UAE and Anderson had averaged 45, I bet a lot of people would use that against Anderson.
People don't bring up steyn's 45 more than they should? So many times it has been brought up eventhough it was just two tests.

While I agree, I certainly don't blame people for using Anderson's previous record in Asia against him, I even used it to determine Steyn being better before the UAE tour. But he's a much improved bowler, and thankfully, people are slowly figuring that out.

Yeah, definitely AWTA. I actually can't believe Anderson still averages above 30, shows how poor he was in his early days.

Can't see how anyone would say that Steyn & Philander are quite comfortably the best bowlers in the world, they can't have been watching Jimmy and Broad for the past year in that case.

I personally think it's very hard to split them as a opening pair, Philander has had a awesome start to his career but Broad has been bowling as good as anyone around. Steyn has been very good the past year and as we all know has had a ATG career up to press but in the Sub Continent Jimmy has been epic, which has filled that hole in his CV and then some that a few people have held against him.

Hope that all four are fit this summer. Steyn, Anderson, Broad and Philander, atm, are bowling just as well as some of the all-time greats, at the moment. It would be a treat to see them perform in the same match. I feel sorry for the batsmen.

Dale Steyn and Philander are quite comfortably the best fast bowlers in the world. Anderson, Zaheer, Morkel, Harris to fight it out for the next few spots.
Anderson is quite clearly better than Harris and Zaheer and Philander has been on the scene for 5 minutes. I urge you to reconsider.

For me; Steyn and Anderson with big Vern making strides up the inside.

Will be awesome to see that foursome going gung ho this summer. I pray there are no injuries so neither side has an excuse.

I think one injury will still mean some high quality fast bowling. SA have De Lange and England have Tremlett, Bresnan, Finn...ahhh, whichever one isn't playing already.

Yeah, but it'd be great to have all of the big 4 fit and firing.

Yep it's going to be fireworks.

Such a shame that Amir and Asif are gone. Else there would be 3 high quality Test attacks.

I for one are very excited by the resurge in fast bowlers were starting to see at the moment, especially considering the ages of most of them. If the likes of Phillander, Broad, Pattinson and Cummins continue their good work recently we could find several teams with quality potential ATG pace attacks. Would personally love Steyn/Phillander/Morkel, Anderson/Broad/Bresnan/Finn and Cummins/Pattinson/Siddle/Hilfenhaus to go down in folk history.

SA, Aus, Eng and Pak - could be 4. Looking like the 90s again.
Australia aren't that great of an attack, imo. Hilfenhaus and Siddle are no better than adequate Test bowlers, imo. The performance against India was due to awful batting by India, not magnificent bowling and I think this will become apparent over the long term.

I agree, though in fairness Cummins and Pattinson may well be a level above them. need to stay fit though which looks a problem for both.

What do you think of Cummins or Pattinson?

What do you think of Cummins or Pattinson?
I think Pattinson is an excellent prospect. He could be the next big thing in terms of fast bowlers. I think he'll only improve and become the future spearhead of the attack. In terms of the full strength attack, Harris and Pattinson are very good but the lack of a good spinner means their attack is very good but not superb.

I think Cummins is not an overly special bowler, atm. However, generating 150kph at 18 is no laughing matter. He has some improving to do, imo. I know I am effectively faulting him on a 6 wicket haul against a strong batting line up but I just think it is not promising that his bowling action is all over the place, so to speak, and that he did not bowl much over 140kph in later spells. He has barely any First Class experience either and I think gone are the days where a bowler can have success without First Class experience of at least two seasons.
