Who is the best all rounder in the world at the moment

The best allrounder got to be Ajit agarkar, deadly with the ball, does something unexpected with the bat and the number of his fans are growing each day:)

what r u on about razzaq is an all rounder he bowls 4th for pakistan after shabbir and bowls most of the time 10 overs.

Razzak would have been second best these days had there not been visible decline in his bowling. azzak should do something about his bowling otherwise he will lose his place in Pak TEST team very quickly!

Kallis is the best batting allrounder for the past 2 years but his bowling has not been so hot in the ODI's in the past 24 months.

30.14 at 4.91, and 31 in Tests.

But that is still pretty good considering his battingaverage.

7 Matches

442 runs @ 40.18 HS 92 50s 4 catches: 6

27 wickets @ 9.15 BB 4/7 SR 21.30 ER 2.82

But seriously in International cricket - Kallis does it easy. Probably the only true allrounder in the game.

For sure, has to be kallis, followed by streak and possibly gayle, on a good day. However our boy freddy is waiting in the wings, once he learns how to swing the ball and pitch it up a bit! I'm not gonna hold my breath though.:)

Kallis definitely, it's beginning to sound like a broken record lol. Others include Streak, Flintoff and Razzaq. I can see Ervine becoming a top allrounder if he can improve his bowling, and experience against the Sachin's and Ponting's can only do that.

Surprisingly few people mentioned Pollock. His bowling in both forms of the game has been brilliant as always, and since 2001 his Test batting average has been 52.75! If he weren't part of such a strong batting lineup he would undoubtedly be getting more recognition for his batting talents (like Heath Streak is now).

Agreed Pollock hasn't been mentioned and it's a crime.

Kallis I would agree with, though his bowling is poor these days. He was terrible yesterday and performance like that are becoming too regular for him to be called an all rounder (or certainly a true all rounder as Mister Wright labelled him). And people are giving Razzak stick! :p

I think test matches are the test of a true all rounder. THere are several players who can do a job in ODIs (Flintoff, Gayle, Klusener, probably others), but in tests, most of these players are ineffective with the ball.

As a result, the closest to fitting the bill are Pollock first and Kallis second IMO. Kallis has concentrated on his batting and become a batsman who bowls almost, hence SA picking 6 bowlers in ODIs because they don't trust him to get through 10 overs.

I won't knock his batting though - test average 53 and ODI average 46 puts him up there with some of the very best all time, so add on his bowling and he is certainly a most valuable player.

During yesterdays game they flashed up the list of highest averages and only Bevan, Zaheer Abbas, Glenn Turner and are ahead of him. In terms of hundreds/innings, Kallis probably ranks about 12th. Only Lara, Haynes, Kirsten, Richards, Dean Jones, Ganguly and Tendulkar can compete in terms of 50s/innings.

If I've lost you, the point I was trying to make is maybe that Kallis isn't even an all rounder any more. He was early in his career, and his bowling figures will stay impressive because of that, but he has sacrificed his bolwing a little to improve himself as a batsman (to great effect).

As a result, my vote for top all rounder goes to Pollock. He is the only player with a realistic shot at the moment of joining (or rather creating) the double 3000/300 club.

I won't attempt to rank them, but all time top ten all rounders must include Imran, Kapil, Botham, Hadlee, Sobers, Miller, Kallis and Pollock.

In terms of numbers, Heath Streak probably wouldn't be far off, but given his bowling averages are higher than his batting averages, it's hard to include him in the same bracket. He would probably in a second group alongside the likes of Cairns, Razzaq, Klusener, Wasim and Flintoff.

Kallis looks like ending up with Sobers like numbers, and Pollock looks like ending up with Imran or Hadlee like numbers.

Where do you get that? South Africa have bowled Kallis before Zulu and Peterson etc. on a few occasions. The only bowlers that South Africa pick in ODI's are Ntini and Nel. All the rest are allrounders (except Peterson. He's just there.)

Adam Gilchrist is still I reckon the best all rounder in the world
Except for his keeping, I'd agree.

Unless of course, he is the best keeper in Australia (which I very much doubt)

Ajit Agarkar should not even be considered as an allrounder.

He's scored 1 Test 100. WOW. Has he scored over 50 again? No.

M Walker, J Oram, T Canning, A Adams, D Vettori's batting are all far superior to this most overrated player on this board.

wat a stupid useless thread....it should b deleted

it's kallis...duh......wat a waste of time

oh, and btw... razzaq isn't all that bad, and if ur gonna put flintoff, styris and now cairns (he isn't wat he used 2 be), well then razzaq fits in that group quiet comfortably

WOW, Agarkar scores a 50 today....:O

About bloody time.

If your favourite cricketer is so good, why is he ranked below Oram? Whom many around he disses his ability.

That's stupid to say things like Dah it's Kallis!
I'd go as far as to say that Symonds may well be as good.... But Gilchrist definately has the wood on him by far!

heath streak has gotta be the best, he is a one man team. and he is doing it agianst argueably the best ODI teams in the world. kallis a very close second - nz will be a good test as i think we are definatly a step ahead of WI. oram has to be up there, along with razzaq and flintoff

symonds is NOT a good all-rounder....he gets his wickets through long hops, and his batting isn't really convincing...although i must admit i saw his innings at the WACA, and that's the first time he's acutlly looked like a batsman from the first ball...usually he starts of looking like a no11, and then if he's still there after a while, he'll start hitting a few...too risky imo

heath streak is the forgotten man! lol, brilliant...although kallis is better, i reckon streak is almost as good
