Who is a better batsman Martyn or Chanderpaul?

The stats speak for themselves........... Ponting is
Katich isn't as a nervous starter as Ponting. I'm not debating their stats, nor am I comparing them on their test careers, Ponting has played much more games than Katich, which means it's impossible to compare.

If you use your own eye and your own judgement you will realise Katich has the all round game. Good starter, fluid stroke maker (yet not elegant - go figure), great to the spinners in all conditions and plays the quicks well. Can open the batting and bat lower-middle order. Ponting is a poor starter, hasn't proven himself in the sub-continent (against India) and I doubt you'd ever find Ponting open the batting.

martyn is a far better player than ponting. katich may not have played much cricket thus far, but i think he too will end up a better player than ponting.

quite agree, people would say Ponting or Martyn because of their stats but if you look at other aspects such has how they start in an innings & their techniques Simon is definately the best. I reckon by the time he stops playing for Australia people will tend to agree with that....

Martyn hands down!! He is an excellent player.Chanderpaul's recent displays against Sri Lanka were absolute crap and Martyn played an excellent innings against England in the first ashes test.I considered Martyn as an attacking player but he put his head down and grinded out his runs against England in a difficult situation and it changes my whole complexion on him.I love players who nudge, nurdle and grind their way to big scores. He played more of a patient innings against England. That innings shows that he is becoming an experienced player and he is prepared to adapt his innings to different situations.

Chanderpaul played excellently against England last year but he doesn't seem to be playing the cricket he was playing a year ago.

Martyn all the way!!

However, CURRENTLY, based on performances in RECENT times, Martyn is in the top 5 or 6 batsmen in the world, and Tendulkar is not.
Sorry, Dont mean to prove you wrong but just wanted to re-iterate my point that Martyn needed to show some more consistency to be considered among top 5 batsman.

Although I do think that aussie selectors have definately over-reacted to the ashes loss.
