But if you looked on paper here's a guy who averaged 28, never seemed to have a sustained period of underperformance across the two years he played Test cricket, then didn't play again. Especially for NZ fans, we thought he was a world beater. Interesting that Onions was preferred in 2009, and they didn't want to carry on with the variety that Sidebottom brought as a LAer. But I can't remember back to the exact circumstances. My laboured point is I saw him bowl live on the 2008 tour, especially from behind the arm at Hamilton and Napier on that tour, and he looked absolutely dynamite.

Yeah he was awesome on that away tour. Had a gun time in the 2010 T20 WC win too.
