Anyhow Aubrey Faulkner IMO.

I just said that he will not look out of place in that team. Not that he genuinely holds a place there above Warne and Murali. But on second thoughts, why not? Apart from his batting and bowling, he is disputably the best fielder in the world right now. Influences every match that he plays with his fielding. How many ATGs can boast that? I believe none.h_huricane selected Ravi as the primary spinner. Cricaddict concurred that idea when I assume he suggested the idea of Ravi being picked as a specialist spinner has merit.
Do you think it has merit? Do you concur?
Nah, I don't think he's quite there. Sobers, Faulkner, Benaud. If a spin bowling all-rounder is the best fit for your ATG team, Sir Jadeja is absolutely in the all-time top 3 contenders for that position.
It's a bit of a random standard to judge an ATG on but to answer the question Ponting is probably the best fielder of players who could be considered ATG. I think Viv and Bradman could have been at least as good fielders as Jadeja too from what I've heard.Apart from his batting and bowling, he is disputably the best fielder in the world right now. Ricky Pointing, Viv Richards, Allan Border and Garry Sobers spring to mind off the top of my head. If you're going to start using fielding as such a big justification for picking one player over another, there's going to be some significant changes in a number of ATG sides.Influences every match that he plays with his fielding. Fair point. But its a lot to do with his batting position. Most of the ones mentioned there bat in the top-middle order. For the team that he picked, jadeja fits best at number 8 (maybe apart from vettori) and is a better spinner than everyone in your list apart from Ashwin and benaud.Jadeja has only scored 1 century in 51 tests. He might be a good bowler and superb fields man but in terms of scoring 100s that doesn't match up well against (in no particular order):
Shakib 5 in 57, Benaud 3 in 63, Ashwin 5 in 77, Faulkner 4 in 25, Mushtaq Mohammed 10 in 57, Mankad 5 in 44, Vettori 6 in 113, Shastri 11 in 80.
Which is also why they’re better value in an AT teamFair point. But its a lot to do with his batting position. Most of the ones mentioned there bat in the top-middle order.
It’s the nose.I'm annoyed I've got Wasim Akram and Chaminda Vaas mixed up, absolute brain fade on that one. ?
Jadeja's taking 6 wickets for 9 runs vs that lot, and scoring 69 not out. It's absolute murder.Absence of a genuine frontline spinner, particularly a finger spinner, gives this team a lot of kudos.
Graeme Smith is the frontline finger spinner, in addition to batting 3Absence of a genuine frontline spinner, particularly a finger spinner, gives this team a lot of kudos.
