Based on what? I am basing it how I see it commonly used.

Which early 40s bats do you see described as they play as worldclass batsmen? Was Brett Lee considered a worldclass test bowler?
At his best, yes. Brett Lee was considered World Class at peak. Were Hanif Mohammad and Saeed Anwar not seen as World Class batsmen??

That's my point on Brett Lee. Worldclass was a particular phase.

Anwar and Hanif were ATVGs yes though as openers there is more allowance for lower averages.
Yeah, because Lee wasn't even a 30 avg bowler outside that phase......

What about Kanhai and May? Or Kohli himself??

Hayden because while he was mid in conditions with side ways movement, he had it in himself to atleast fight, Sehwag was a tail ender in those conditions.
While I do think that is true, but I also think that Sehwag was better when the condition suited. Close for me.

Tbf to Sehwag I think he could had been decent given the opportunity to bat at 5/6. Always think was a mistake from the management there. He has a ton on debut batting in the MO is South Africa.

probably, him and Cook are two people who confused me because their skill sets were obviously for the middle order and not for the new ball.

Again, worldclass is a standard for me players achieve during their careers for phases, but those players may be classified in the great category once their careers are over.

What a frightening MO that would have been with a horrible opening pair.
I mean, it already was so away tbf with Sehwag opening..... Though I think Rahul could have been been a decent bet to open; did Great in England 2011. You hardly get tougher opening conditions and such a high quality series by an opener; and that too past his heydays by far. Dravid with another liability, Laxman at 3, Tendulkar at 4, Ganguly at 5 and Sehwag at 6 works for me.
