It’s a tough one. Miandad in Tests and Waqar all formats combined maybe?

Both were poor vs best side of their era.

Waqar inflated his stats a bit via weak team bashing while Miandad inflated his stats via home bullying.

Waqar had an insane peak. But Miandad kept his average above 50 all his career too. I think this is really tough to chose. Miandad was tactically more astute so I may incline towards Miandad in Tests purely.

Waqar

First 33 Tests : 190 wickets @ 19 & 19 5-Fer

Next 54 Tests : 183 wickets @ 28 & 3 5-Fer

Out of those 3 5-Fer he took from 1995-2003, one was against Zimbabwe and another against Bangladesh

Yeah, I think it's silly to compare bowlers and bats on output, so I will take the tack of overall career "influence".

I liked Waqar a lot as a player, but Miandad simply was a much more important leader whose ability to ultimately fall in line for the sake of his country helped us reach our greatest success.

After Miandad left, Wasim and Waqar did the opposite. Certainly not the worst players in Pakistan cricket from this aspect, (where we have an absolute mountain of selfish, unprofessional, and parochial players to choose from in our history unfortunately) but the trend in the wrong direction started with them.

The Waqar - Wasim rift damaged Pakistan cricket massively in the 90s. They wouldn't even talk to each other in the same team and conspired against each other.

It's a hard one. I find it hard to compare batsman with a bowler.

Deespite some issues, Miandad had better outputs against top teams of his era when playing away. More over all impact on Pakistani cricket. A better cricketing mind based on what I have read. Cricket can use some fighting characters like him. Kept it interesting. On other hands, Waqar was a sight to see with inswing yorkers. Glad to seen him live preinjury.

Considering everything, I would take Miandad over Waqar.

Hm Javed's away record is worse than I remember
I don't think he has a better away record than Crowe, Gower or Lloyd.

These two were both monstrous at home but Waqar is naturally more impressive and valuable in that regard because Pakistan isn't seam friendly.
