Assume he retires tomorrow, Viv had an almost 17 year career (WSC interrupted) and Smith has an almost 15 year career (Sandpaper interrupted) and they have similar match numbers overall.inconclusive. Smith has a couple more years to go.
I guess either way then? tho Smith seems in middle of renaissance so who knows.Assume he retires tomorrow.
Smith was also dropped for a couple of years at the start of hia career.Assume he retires tomorrow, Viv had an almost 17 year career (WSC interrupted) and Smith has an almost 15 year career (Sandpaper interrupted) and they have similar match numbers overall.
I feel it gets talked about more though. Like more relatively. Though that may just be current bias.ngl, it looks like Smith had a relatively less rough post peak than people like Viv/Sachin/Ponting.
Agreed.I feel it gets talked about more though. Like more relatively. Though that may just be current bias.
Those are eerily similar.Agreed.
Viv (late 1981-1991) [without SL]
77 matches, 4571 @ 43.12, 40.1 Run-per-inning
Sachin (late 2002-2013) [without Ban]
91 matches, 6408 runs @ 45.1, 41 run per inning
Smith (late 2019-2025)
48 matches, 3298 @ 45.1, 40.2 run per inning.
Given eras, Smith might have the least 'bad" post peak.
Point made.
Yeah but his peak was almost entirely batting friendly era. So we are inherently rewarding him for not being as successful when bowling got tougher.Isn’t the current era considered a bowling era? Then Smith’s numbers should be even more impressive.
You can't, in good conscience, expect him to average 65+ in a bowling Era as wellYeah but his peak was almost entirely batting friendly era. So we are inherently rewarding him for not being as successful when bowling got tougher.
Better than 45?You can't, in good conscience, expect him to average 65+ in a bowling Era as well
45 is Very good for post peak in a tough EraBetter than 45?
Tendulkar may not have had as big a peak as Smith or Viv, but he basically had a decade from 1993 to 2002 averaging over 60.Those are eerily similar.
Viv still had to deal with helpful pitches and Hadlee and Imran.
Smith too had peak Bumrah in that last series, but series like this one in-between.
Sachin had McWarne of course but really didn't exactly thrive vs them during that time. And it was literally the season pitch era.
Yeah but peak ending in good era is what is sort of odd in terms of timing.45 is Very good for post peak in a tough Era
