*Unofficial* New Zealand Black Caps Thread

On Sky Sport (UK) podcast. Simon Doull was on as the guest, and he mentioned that he had 'first hand knowledge' that for the next blackcaps coach (when Stead's contract expires in 6 months) that the NZC cheque book will be out and they are prepared to pay significantly more, and are wanting a top-notch / high profile candidate.
Kind of sounded like Williamson might be closer to the end than we thought too.

Call me a pessimist but I hope we actually choose someone with a quality method forward rather than just chase a big name. Hesson entering without preconceived ideas of what NZ is helped a bit.

Coaching is a vibes gig. It's not about the name, it's about someone who has
a) A clear vision for what they want to do with the team which is compatible with the resources available
b) The communication, organisational, and man-management skills to make that happen

We need someone who fits the realistic composition of the team over the next five years, which is going to be a lot of young guys, particularly on the bowling front.

Doull says a lot sometimes. Williamson will be in Australia come 26-27.
I think I've said this before, but I'm not particularly thrilled with a 36yo Williamson (who may or may not be past it) headlining a NZ team where half the squad is 34 or older. We're either hoping he's not washed in 2 years or hoping whoever succeeds him hits the ground running.
Maybe I'm being wildly optimistic about 26-7, but after sweeping India we can afford to be. If you can sweep India in India, Australia in Australia is just as tough, but hardly tougher. I think they could be vulnerable by then, with a similar profile to the current India side. I'm not sure if a Dad's Army team is the one for the job. If they're performing & the best we can put up, then great, but if not, then drop them for players who are better.
