Was looking forward to watching Jacobs tee off today, will have to make do with watching old stagers like Chapman and Mitchell and some of the up and comers like Hay and Foulkes. The ‘brains trust’ are obviously mindful of the dreaded pecking order….I’m sure many paying punters would have been keen to see Jacobs in action to assess if the hype matches the reality.

Disappointing, they need to put aside the hurt feelings of regulars in these relatively meaningless bi-lateral T20 games. There's really no excuse not to blood Jacobs today.

It's not often in T20 cricket you find a team with a paucity of opening options. It's the best place to be. I want to see Jacobs, not Robinson, so chuck someone random into open in his place. I'm sure GP would be happy with it!

Were there any hints in pre-game interviews on 2nd opener in T20Is alongside Robinson or ODIs alongside Young?

Squad announcement mentioned "Hay will keep in the T20I series and has been selected as batting and keeping cover for the ODI series" but no specific comment on Hay as opener, and I don't think Stead will shift Latham from ODI #5 / #4 mid innings anchor role.

So perhaps Ravindra / Mitchell in T20Is? Ravindra in ODIs?

It was reported in the Herald that RR would open.

‘Hay will take the gloves while batting below a middle order bolstered by veteran Daryl Mitchell, with Robinson opening alongside Rachin Ravindra and ahead of Mark Chapman at No 3.’

I haven’t really seen it mentioned but given he was dropped for this series have we finally seen the last of Ish Sodhi in NZ colours?

Possibly although I was surprised to learn he recently turned 32, so with the current selection regime who knows. I somehow figured he was 35ish (fields like a 55 y/o) & forgot he made his test debut aged 20.

I think he's just been dropped because all of Santner, Macewell, and Phillips is available. If one of them's injured or Macewell's crap, he could easily return. Though I agree – he shouldn't.

This game is a sell out and 50 percent of the crowd might still be stuck outside the gate for kickoff 🤣
