Whatever it takes!!!
this is probably the most suited side you've brought to nz. a lot will depend on how you adapt. since 2008 england have shown up bowling a foot too short and blamed everything but themselves. for the batsmen there's the swing and potentially the tennis ball type bounce.

you should probably try and troll nz into preparing greentops tbh since it will allow your bois to play on the front foot and reduce the error for your bowlers in case they do an england.

you're flat out way better than england in all departments though so yea india are one of the few sides i give the side eye when touring here.
That is awesome. I do think this Indian side will keep their feet on the ground and also keep coming when things are not going well, unlike the earlier ones. So we will at least fight hard, whatever happens, I think. And I also think we will play 5 bowlers with Jadeja as the all-rounder and Ashwin as the other spinner and 3 more seamers. I feel the balance will be better that way too, unless we play 6 batters.

India had quality cricketers even on the last trip but as soon as couple of games didn't go their way they almost appeared disinterested. Maybe now Kohli is at helm and given the championship points are up for grabs they may come better prepared. Wellington deck offers good bounce and movement but the wind can be a major factor. It can put off your guys big time. This is one of the reason why India has always struggled at Basin. The wind will be howling and there are bound to be a day of dodgy weather if not two. If India bat on those days it's anyone's game. If there is not as much wind then Indian bowlers may have some good time. Our boys know to acclimatize to these conditions. I'm not sure how many of your bowlers will have bowled at Basin. I know for sure Ishant Sharma did and picked up good number of wickets before Baz went ballistic in the second dig. It will be very hard to breach Black Caps at Basin. It will take mighty effort both from your batters and bowlers to win a game at Basin. Spinners are not a factor at basin so no matter what spinner you play won't necessarily have much effect. Fortunately for us, you are playing your first test match at Basin 8-)

Hagley is where India has better chance. The ground is good sized, there won't be as much bounce as at Basin and Christchurch will likely offer much better weather that will suit India. Perhaps the spinner will also come into play at Hagley rather than at Basin. In any case the spinner's role is going to be quite limited.

Also depends on how many players in fact play all formats. More the merrier for India to get used to the conditions. If there are test specialists coming in just before the test match, the three day warm up match will be of no use to those players. If the test team is made up of 80% of players playing all format I think India will have a chance otherwise it's either NZ 1-0 or 1-1 at best for India.
Cool. The test guys are coming over to play the A team games though, so they should be better acclimitized than the English boys were, I feel.

India squad for T20s vs NZ.

Virat Kohli (C), Rohit Sharma (VC), KL Rahul, S Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Rishabh Pant (WK), Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, W Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Shami, Navdeep Saini, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur

Strong batting line up but not sure if the bowling is good enough. To be fair I haven't followed Indian cricket much and don't know much about Saini, Thakur Sundar much. I don't rate Pant much. What happened to Samson? He's a much better wicket keeper batsman I thought having seen him in IPL few times.

The team is the same we have been playing. Samson is not considered as I think they feel Rahul is the backup keeper. Saini is pretty quick and has a mean yorker. Shardul is a bit of Stokes with the ball, right arm all sorts and you never know if you are gonna get a peach or a filth.

i don'tthink any of foxcroft, ludick and co. are gonna make it tbh. wagner and conway are a level above.

also article i read yesterday seemed to imply stead would pick his best side possible for the t20 series, so i can see precious kane and ross energy getting wasted.
I think it makes sense to play your best side for the T20s given its the WT20 year but maybe they can rest and experiment through the 3 ODIs which no one cares about and only exists for money making purposes.

I think India should be favourites for the test series.

Gut feel says NZ on brink of an England-style 2014/15 meltdown implosion. Not obvious yet as had the mercy of going home after 3 tests.

Things aren't right. NZ will be spending the summer reacting rather than planning.

Actively try to not even click on his articles if at all possible these days. He’s totally in bizarro-land ... but at least it shows you that anyone can get a job writing a column in a newspaper, if he is in anyway qualified to do so.
It came up in one of my news feeds so I clicked on it out of sheer curiosity as to how bad it could be and I wasn't disappointed. Even better were the comment sections, rightly filled with people calling him an idiot, but a good portion of people defending him with "oh you didn't read the article, he actually has a point" like it was some nuanced, highly researched think piece, full of statistics and *guffaw* good reasoning

Not Terrible
That spud that racially abused Archer has been banned for two years. Mildly disappointed it wasn't longer.

With a not very promising looking U19s team about to play the U19 world cup.

To attempt to cheer us up, I made this graphic of 'reasonably significant domestically or internationally' players active on the NZ circuit who DID NOT make the NZ U19s squads in their years. Those who have gone on to international level (in one format or another) in bold.

Note: Omitted Southern Africans and Blair Tickner etc who didn't play youth cricket in NZ.

That is an awesome chart. Would be great to show it to kids that didn't make the 19s. I'll see if I can make similar one for those that did make it from the 19s side.

Yes lots of Cinderella chariots that abruptly turned themselves back into mere pumpkins, that is a bit of a common theme in the international names.

Cribb trying to get Bart (Nicholls) out of his crawl space, as we speak...
