Final seamer would be dependant on conditions, in England I'd take Jimmy and maybe swap Bolly for Zaheer. Otherwise I'd either go for Johnson or Morkel.
Yea a world test XI ATM:
Swann
Graeme Swann
I know its been a few months and I should be used it but, when I see world XI with an English spinner I still go WTF!!!Swann
Vettori is quality test match all-rounder. Its crazy to call him a "jack of all trades".Personally I'd pick a wicket-keeper, players who aren't banned and I wouldn't include a number 7 who's more of a jack of all trades than anything in Tests but maybe I'm just fussy about those sort of things.
Imagine how us English feel.I know its been a few months and I should be used it but, when I see world XI with an English spinner I still go WTF!!!
He doesn't warrant selection in a world XI with the bat and definitely not with the ball, as essentially a 5th/6th bowler so far better to pick a batsman (or maybe a wicket-keeper)Vettori is quality test match all-rounder. Its crazy to call him a "jack of all trades".
He certainly warrants selection to bat @ 7 in a world XI based on his form with the bat in the 2-3 years. I can certainly see him being very effective in such a team where he has quality back-up, where he can be used as an attacking bowler. Since the story of Vettori career with the ball is him having to be more defensive given the lack of support in his NZ side.He doesn't warrant selection in a world XI with the bat and definitely not with the ball, as essentially a 5th/6th bowler so far better to pick a batsman (or maybe a wicket-keeper)
Depends, in India, probably. Anywhere else then no.? = Zaheer
Steyn, Asif and Aamer sounds devastating.
I am not sure about this. Johnson on his day is probably the best bowler in the world these days. Although his days are getting farther and fewer by the day.Bollinger > Johnson.
Dougeh.
Not including banned players:
Steyn
Anderson
Bollinger
...for me, this provides the most variety as well as basically including the three most on form fasty bowlers (apart from Zaheer, maybe, but i prefer Anderson atm).
Oh and on this "current World XI" thing that this thread seems to have turned into, are people forgetting Matt Prior as keeper-batsman? As Kumar no longer fulfills the keeper role I see no other option, personally...
Edit: To be fair, looks as though the Boucher has a pretty good test record recently, although he seems to be getting faded out of the team.
Why?. Their seems to be an incorrect notion that Sangakkara not keeping is sign that affects his test batting or something. When it fact his batting peak just coincided with him leaving the gloves IMO. AFAIS, the only reasons Sangaka doesn't keep in tests is because its a great strain to do that along with being captain & # 3. He does all 3 in ODIs & T20 very well. If SRI had a WC all-rounder batting @ 6 or 7in tests for example, i think it would have been very possible for him to stay keeping & his rate of runscoring wouldn't decline at all IMHO.Athlai said:Selecting Sanga as a keeper in a world XI is wishful thinking. Easily the team's number 3 though.
