The Test match batting of Yuvraj Singh

Jono

Virat Kohli (c)
Good fightback from India, though losing Sehwag made me :(. Hope Sachin tons up.

Nah.

Apart from anything else, he's rubbish away from home, so he'd even risk being a FC journeyman in those countries.

Unless he could bat in the top three then he's not a chance in NZ or SL.

Would love him in the NZ ODI team however.
Lol, you play Watling. Yuvraj makes your team.

Yuvraj is basically our Marcus North. The similarities in style are pretty uncanny. Not sure whether he follows the same "<20 or >100" template though.

The funny thing about Yuvraj is, his big knocks have been really crucial ones in pretty testing circumstances (so have some of North's at the start of his career TBF). He just isn't technically solid enough to be a dependable Test batsman.

Yuvraj is a shadow of North as a test player in my opinion. People just think of Yuvraj for his limited overs exploits, something North can't fall back on.

Not really, believe it or not, Yuvraj has done some decent things as a Test batsman. I don't like him either, but check out his record.

He is a wholey ordinary player, with an ordinary record, who has done little of note in foreign conditions or against quality opposition. North on the other hand has (occassionally) made runs in various situations and venues.

Yuvraj averages 28 away from home. 9 against Australia, 4 IN Australia. He's never played in England, and only played once in South Africa. His only runs of any note were against a poor Pakistan team.

Yeah, let's just look at his average in Australia.

He's made hundreds in Pakistan when the rest of the lineup was folding around him (one of them in a fourth innings), one at Eden Gardens coming in at a 4/60 type situation, made around 70 against SL last year coming in at 4/30, made 80 odd in the fourth innings chase against England at Chennai 2008. All pretty good contributions, better than any of North's, if you ask me. Jeez, you're making me sound like a Yuvraj fan here. 8-)

Have a closer look. He's only scored against Pakistan on dead subcontinental pitches. That Pakistan team didn't even have the benefit of having Their world class bowling attack to call on. The fact that he scores more in the second innings shows that on the pitches he's been playing on (predominantly subcontinental) have been lively in the first innings and flatten out in the second, typically. 70's against Sri Lanka ? Please don't make that an innings of note to compare with North's debut hundred against South Africa. North averages more away than at home. and has made runs against all the major test nations he's played against bar Pakistan, who at the time had Asif and Aamer.

The fact of North's overall record and his inconsistentsies is a different story alltogether. But in comparison with Yuvraj he's way way superior.

Yeah, that sounds fair enough.. haven't seen enough of Nash, but seems a more solid, reliable batsman.
In a team that consists of a an extremely flashy opener in gayle, two young bats and a weak no.6 in Bravo Senior, Nash provides some great stability following the decline of Chanderpaul.
