Shady Slim

International Coach
Finally, a decent spell with the new ball. Typical of O'Shea de Slim that he didn't walk when he clearly edged it behind, but that's why his average has sunk since DRS came in.
walking if you know you're out is for schlubs! can't stand your ground if you know you haven't hit it, why feed the oppo a free wicket if you know that you have

Third test, Headingley

Day Five

England were made to wait for their victory charge on day five as Starfighter and Ruid extended the eighth wicket stand and gave the visiting fans something to cheer on the third morning. Eventually Davis managed to get rid of the adhesive Ruid for his third wicket, but Starfighter remained to raise his half century and take the score owards 300.

Starfighter was eventually out for a battling 69 attempting to square drive Smythe-Brown shortly after lunch, and Thrust ended proceedings by castling Thexton David for 5. England would need 89 to win.

Australia came out to bowl with the bit between their teeth, and Daemon again succumbed to the new ball, pinged in front for 2. Firing them in full and fast, all three Australian pacers picked up an lbw after Ruid dismissed Howe and Starfighter added to his runs with the wicket of Worcester-Park. Fans were left wondering what might have been with a tougher target as England slipped to a nervous 30/3 in their small chase.

With Arquis still there to remain a cool head, Mole went on the attack in a swift cameo to bring it home for England with a session to spare, and the hosts took a 2-1 lead.

It was great to be part of a winning team again, ya know. I mean Roome was amazing - he can really put on a show when he wants. We showed plenty of character and we all know that who shows most character has the most character in these contests. It's hard to say where the game was won - maybe when we scored that final run to take us past the target? Yeah, if I had to choose that'd be the moment where the game was won. Oh, my highlight of the game? Well, it's just all the team spirit, ya know. I mean, the guys - they're the best bunch of guys that any guys ever got to play sport with. They're my guys... our guys... Anyway, yeah in summary, we've been pretty consistent at times in this series, but at other times less so. As to the next game, I never make predictions and I never will. Pot as many balls as you can. Cheers.

Typical worm failing as usual. Should be sacked so that Vicente can return and bowl his super ***y spin.

Scoreboard doesn't show it but got 2 unplayable beauties. Looking forward to taking apart the Australians in the next game. Thank you to the selectors for the faith.

As the fourth test of the Forumer's Ashes looms large in all our conciousness, don't forget to post each side's XI by tomorrow evening if you want to see it take the field.

Fourth Test, Old Trafford

Day One

For the third successive Test, Australia called correctly and chose to bat first on what looked like a flat surface. They made good use of it early on, blunting the England new ball attack before making strong progress through the first session of the match. Varn Duff took most of the initiative, hitting a sequence of boundaries off Trust to force on the change bowlers, and though Jevali nicked a Mole delivery behind just before lunch, they had set up a fantastic platform for Duff and Slim to take advantage of in the afternoon session.

The pair put on a show, and enjoyed the conditions on a sunny day in Manchester. Despite significant abuse from the home crowd, Duff accelerated to a fine hundred and partner Slim raised his bat for fifty before tea, where the Australians had a sandwich on an imposing 207/1.

After the break England were finally able to get some purchase, as allrounder Herregonaes was able to fire one past Duff's defences to dismiss him for 123, and half an hour later Smythe-Brown took Delonge's outside edge for 29. A second wicket for offspinner Mole with the old ball had England back in the game at 280/4, but the new ball just hit the bat harder. Slim remained to bring up his century in the fading light, and Ruthless took advantage of some wayward stuff from Thrust to hit three boundaries in a row and take the visitors past 300. Davis would have the last word, picking up his first wicket by dismissing the keeper-bat, but Australia had taken the spoils on day one as stumps were called at 336/5.

Fourth Test, Old Trafford

Day Two

With a strong platform set and batting still to come, Australia took the chance to post a big first innings score with both hands. Slim and Kasinathan extended their partnership up to 72, and the score towards 400, before Mole was able to get the only wicket of the session as an lbw appeal showed up as three reds on review. Starfighter joined Kasinathan, now on fifty, and the pair upped the scoring rate before lunch to take the visitors to 442/6.

Offspinner Mole claimed a series-best fourth wicket with Starfighter's edge for 32, but the spinner was arguably just the recipient of the rest of the England attack wilting. And Ruid took a liking to Thrust and Smythe-Brown's attempts to bounch him, smashing the old ball away. The seventh wicket stand reached into the 90s by the time Kasinathan, soon after raising his bat for the wicketkeeper's first hundred of the series, lost his wicket to Herregonaes.

Soon after Ruid was dismissed for 54, but the runs had soared past 550 by tea, and the tailenders weren't quite done as O'Fcoco and David clung on to send the visitors' score past 600. Following a frankly pisstaking six from David, the declaration came an hour before the close with the Australians on 607/9.

The wicket was still very good for batting though, and England's openers were able to weather the pressure and put together an unbeaten stand before stumps.
