The Colts Thread

Why do I get the feeling that most of the results rely on me!?

I'm feeling like such a knob for going out at exactly my average when I could've done more....

If you're getting that feeling, you're basically saying the rest of the players in the side are crap. I take offence that you might think you're the be-all and end-all of the Colts - and usually I'm defending you in these kind of situations! Saying that goes a bit far, man.

Yes, you should do your best to perform in every game, but no, games don't depend on you alone. There are ten other people in the side perfectly capable of performing well - as they have shown in the past and are doing so in recent times.

If I may point out that in Q1, Yellows won 3 out of 4 OD games, yet there were 5 players who amassed more points than Jasotharan (and add to that the players who were unavailable as they were at the CT)

Not suggesting that at all, I'm just saying it "feels" like it. I know that Bhrat, Fitzsimmons, Howler, Kerr, Hancock, yourself and recently Hopegood have been hitting it.

I just hope we can get some wins on the board.

The sides have been named for the next FC game (May 19) and the next OD game (May 20).

No changes to the FC side, hopefully we can improve on these close draws and make them wins.

Two changes to the OD side, we've decided to stregthen the batting with Das coming in for Hopgood, who has stuggled of late. Kerr also comes in for me. My average is over 50 and I need to spend a bit of time playing for the Broncos.

Games are a few days away, so good luck to those selected.

Late changes are always a possibility, so keep an eye on the teams.

Good luck guys.

On a personal note, I hope my OD Grade form improves enough for me to come into the minds of selectors (bar me of course).

Colts player ratings for OD game against Green

S. Jasotharan: Got the team off to a good start, but needed to convert his start. 3.5/10

M. Hopgood: Another failure for the rookie. After a great start to his OD career, has fallen off a little bit. 1.5/10

D.P. Towns: Looks uncomfortable coming in at first drop. May need a stint as opener to get his OD season going. 3/10

C.R. Butler: Another good innings from Butler. For the Colts to get a big total he needed to hang around with Bharat. 6/10

P. Bharat: 107 runs off 100 balls was a tremendous innings, and played just at the right time. Fantastic innings. 10/10

T.V. Weber: One of Weber's better performance. Didn't use up too many balls with the bat, and took a wicket, was still expensive with the ball though. 4.5/10

M.R. Wilson: Performed well with the new ball. A role he is likely to hold on to for a while.5/10

N.R. Hancock: Expensive with the ball and didn't get a bat. 2/10

T. Bochat: Didn't have much success with the ball and didn't get a chance to throw the bat. 3/10

J.P. McNamara: In red hot form at the moment in the one day arena. Although he didn't pick up a wicket he bowled tightly and looked threatening. 5/10

K.S. Wright: Will probably not wear the colours for a while with the Colts. The skipper is struggling with the white ball. 0/10

Player points:

Bharat 3 (8)
Butler 2
Wilson 1 (10)

Colts player ratings for FC game against Blue

S.G. Fitzsimmons: Fantastic double for 'Fitzy'. His first innings was amazing, considering the rest of the batsmen. Looked like a Bradman amongst McGraths. 10/10

J. B. Malthus: Had a point to prove to the selectors and he did so by occupying the crease. He will be bitterly disapointed that he fell in the 90s, but he showed the team needs him because he is becoming a solid batsman who others can build a partnership with. 7/10

D.P. Towns: Towns is in spectacular FC form at the moment, and might just be pushing for test spot when the test series comes around. Will be disapointed he didn't carry on after reaching the hundred, but along with Malthus learned his lesson from the first innings and built partnerships 7.5/10

C. R. Butler: Disapointing match for Butler. Only 4 runs. 0/10

S. Jasotharan: After an amazing start to the season he has lost his way a little. His form slump also appears to be effecting his concentration with the gloves. 0.5/10

W.A. Kerr: Kerr is becoming something of a second innings specialist. His 74* is his highest score of the season and set the Colts up well. 7/10

M.W. Wilson: Disapointing with the ball in this match, but still kept things tight. Proved his allround ability and lower order magic with yet another half century. Looks in very good form in both forms of the game. 5/10

N.R. Hancock: Didn't bowl as well as he has in the past, but kept things very tight in the first innings. His half century in the second innings was crucial in ensuring Green didn't have a lower total to chase. 5/10

J.P. McNamara: His first class debut for the Colts this season was very handy. Even though the wicket wasn't to his favour he still bagged important wickets. Would be disapointed he didn't have more of an effect on the result towards the end of the game with the ball turning. 4.5/10

K.S. Wright: This was the captain's best performance by far this season. His four wickets in the first innings made sure the Colts weren't facing a huge first innings deficit. He bowled his heart out in the second, but couldn't deliver the victory. 8/10

G.M. Thomas: Didn't look to be bowling all that well but still managed 6 wickets. What a bowler! 5/10

Player Points:

Fitzsimmons 3 (9)
Wright 2 (3)
Towns 1 (4)

I'd just like to congratulate Geg on reaching his 50th FC wicket this season, by the way, in just 9 games. Incredibly consistent - that's averaging 5.56 per game, 2.78 per innings - keeping in mind he has only one 5w bag, that only goes to show just how consistent he has been.

Yeah, he's been fantastic for us as always. Even when he has an ordinary quarter he is still a threat. With my form improving with every match, we are looking good in the FC arena.

In OD, however, we really need our batsmen to kick on from their starts and get our scores closer to 300. We really need to pick up more early wickets also.

Cheers. I'm hoping to finish with at least one 10fer by seasons end, and at least 80 wickets.
