At least in New Zealand, currently the "play-by-play" rugby commentary tends to be exclusively called by non-former players, with the "expert" or sideline comments almost exclusively by former players. Ditto football. Personally find that for those sports I've mentioned the former players are mostly up to the mark in terms of commentary and some of the non-former players (Grant Nisbett in particular) make the most errors.I was thinking though, do any other sports have all their play-by-play called by former players? Players who go into the box are going to be less inclined to do research than a John Motson or a Barry Davies aren't they? Understandable really and it's obvious why cricket lends itself to such commentary.
Depending on how long the preview is and whether you watch it, we might be dead before the first ball.I'd be wasted before the drinks break in that case
One ball in and his "work ethic" has been discussed.Or how he runs in all day?
Did Taylor really just mention Finn as one of the 'swing' bowlers the conditions will suit?
Add to the quota...Broad just described as a not overly tall man of 6'2".
****ing terrible commentary
