different times, that was a par score back thenHe had decent support from Gurusinha and then Rantunga. Better attack, but lower target and much less pressure.

Fine par score. But still pressure wise, what Dhoni faced, the tactical masterstoke he took in promoting himself up the order despite the circumstances, the fact he took the pressure off Gambhir despite being the new man at crease, and the drama around it(that six, Sachin finally winning a WC).different times, that was a par score back then
Still much higher than what the others faced. Raina was just that good in one match vs Aus(SL had a much better attack). Yuvi yep.Dhoni’s was better from a story perspective but in truth India still had potm Yuvraj and also Raina still left both of whom chased down Australia’s target in quarters. pressure wasn’t as high as you’d believe
as i did say, the circumstances and other aspects around it make it seem better than it actually was. Dhoni also took a while to get his 1st boundary too, it wasn’t as clearcut as you say it is. in comparison with some of the knocks here his does pale a bit as does StokesFine par score. The only reason SL didn't seem under greater pressure was because of the effortless way DeSilva was playing. He deserves credit for that.Fine par score. Stokes and Dhoni I find hard to separate as finishing knocks.as i did say, the circumstances and other aspects around it make it seem better than it actually was. Dhoni’s was better to me from a quality pov but I’ll freely admit that I’m biased hereStokes and Dhoni I find hard to separate as finishing knocks.
I agree it’s not the clear cut. I just feel from a pressure pov, Dhoni faced more.as i did say, the circumstances and other aspects around it make it seem better than it actually was. Sure. But playing in your home country, being the pre eminent tournament favourites, Sachin’s last WC etc makes the pressure somewhat higher. The only reason SL didn't seem under greater pressure was because of the effortless way DeSilva was playing. He deserves credit for that.
Dhoni definitely had a huge weight on his shoulders stepping to the crease tho.
Stokes struggled way more than Dhoni at the start. Dhoni may not have creamed the first bowl he faced, but was definitely the aggressor throughout the innings. Dhoni also faced a better attack.Stokes and Dhoni I find hard to separate as finishing knocks.
Lloyd, Gilly and Dhoni are very tough to separate.Back to Lloyd's knock, he stepped in with WI 50/3 and scored 102 out of 149 runs while at the crease off just 85 balls against an attack of Lillee, Gilmour and peak Thomson. Nobody came close to his level of attack that match.
That is pretty top drawer.
Look at these shots clobbering Lillee. This innings is up there, shouldn't underrate it.Back to Lloyd's knock, he stepped in with WI 50/3 and scored 102 out of 149 runs while at the crease off just 85 balls against an attack of Lillee, Gilmour and peak Thomson. It wasn't the easiest pitch for batting for Stokes though I felt, very sluggish.Stokes struggled way more than Dhoni at the start. Dhoni may not have creamed the first bowl he faced, but was definitely the aggressor throughout the innings. Dhoni also faced a better attack.
i can’t remember anyone other than Buttler being fluent on it. even Nicholls looked suspectIt wasn't the easiest pitch for batting for Stokes though I felt, very sluggish.
Stokes and Dhonis are finishing knocks, not innings builders, and should be judged as such.which is also why I think Buttler’s contribution is being unfairly missed. without him England would have never got to winning the game, with him England had a shot at it that Stokes did well to use
Yeah I remember watching the classy innings unfold with barely any hitch. He made a very tricky chase appear easy.Aravinda. I know the dew was enormous but chasing was considered an easy way to lose games back then and his innings was as cool as they come.
