The Battle of the Englishmen

Short of 24 hours, but 14-1 is pretty comprehensive & Geraint's sympathy vote spares Gower the ignimony of being the victim of the first whitewash. So we'll move on...

Next up, a hopefully more interesting match-up; two somewhat autocratic patrician members of the upper middle-class, both born in foreign fields. One the dogged defensive stonewaller, best remembered for some tour or other; his rival the flashing blade & future chairman of selectors:

Battle of the Englishmen: Round1, Battle 15

Douglas Jardine
22 tests, 1296 runs @ 48.00 (1 century, 10 half-centuries)

vs

Ted Dexter
62 tests, 4502 runs @ 47.89 (9 centuries, 27 half-centuries), 66 wickets @ 34.93

Im not a fan of either, really.

I never liked Lord Ted so Jardine it is. TBH its a freaking injustice if Jardine goes through and Larwood didnt.

Yeah Goughy, you are right.

But I guess that is the historical irony holding true 60 years after the event.

Anyway, leaving Larwood out of this as the format is the format...

my vote goes for Lord Ted Dexter - despite his later astrological proclivities.

Jardine

Lord Teds, time as chairman of selectors weighs against him for me.

Jardine came up with a system that helped curb one of the great sportsman of any age.

and really annoyed the Aussies, which can never be a bad thing.
