The Battle of the Englishmen

JBH001

International Regular
I think I shall go with Gentleman George - though it may be a moot point with all the Compton votes! Still, Statham for me.

Tough as any choice between a batsman and a bowler would always be, But Compton by a bit for me.

Compton wraps up a comfortable 13-4 victory. Three of Statham's four votes came from Lancashire, nice to see northern parochialism is alive and well! ;)

Next, a couple of Alans... Our champion post-war keeper/batsman versus the pugnacious Anglo-saffie who loved to mix it with the Windies quicks:

Battle of the Englishmen: Round1, Battle 13

Alan Knott
95 tests, 4389 runs @ 32.75 (5 centuries, 30 half-centuries), 250 catches, 19 stumpings
20 ODIs, 200 runs @ 20.00, SR 80.97 (1 half-century), 15 catches, 1 stumping

vs

Allan Lamb
79 tests, 4656 runs @ 36.09 (14 centuries, 18 half-centuries), 1 wicket @ 23.00
122 ODIs, 4010 runs @ 39.31, SR 75.54 (4 centuries, 26 half-centuries)

I would have gone for Lamb but since IMO, Englands greatest wicket-keeper batsman in Les Ames has been voted out, its Knott

Pedro Delgado

International Debutant
Couldn't bring myself to vote for the fat racist idiot even if I wanted to, but he loses the battle on merit anyway for me.

Knott

Knott's average is only 4 less than Lamb, and Knott had to Wicketkeep too. Looks like Knott's average would be higher if he'd carried more of the 30 fifties onto hundreds.

Knott.

If I had to be different I would have voted for Inzamam. But in this case I will vote for Knott.
