Even without them we'd have ample opportunity to bring nationality into things, whether it be big issues like Sydneygate, Ovalgate or match threads in general. As a big international sports forum, it's bound to happen if the members are so inclined and there's nothing we can really do about it.

Those things only come around every couple years and are outside the realm of control on this board. Almost every thread in CC atm is going to pit nationality verse nationality

Nah it happens all the time whether it be Modi vs FICA, Australians not wanting to tour or any issues that frames someone from one nationality in a positive or negative light. If people want to bring nationality into it, it'll happen and it doesn't help the cricketers and administrations are leading the charge.

Whatever it takes!!!
You see, I don't mind things getting out of hand during instances such as Sydney or Oval, but honestly, we have got people here who are willing to keep baiting other nation's posters in just about every thread. That needs to be looked into...

And the other thing is, we have got some real fanboys around as well.. Nothing wrong with that as personally I am a fanboy of quite a few cricketers as well, but surely there is no need for so many Tendulkar threads at the same time, for instance.. As a fan of Tendulkar, I really don't mind it but there are many here who are not and there is no reason why they should come in and see the front page clogged up with a zillion threads on the same person and with the same posters trying to get in the same arguments... That is where the self-moderation comes in, I guess... Coz it can, and going by the evidence in CC so far, it does annoy the other members..

Perhaps, but even during times when things like that aren't happening you get all these comparison threads which inevitably blow up

A suggestion that might be of interest to James -

One of the biggest forums in Aus - Big Footy have a Hot Topic subforum that they create whenever an issue gets out of hand and a million threads are being started, so lets say Sachin scores a double ton or Darrell Hair reprimands a Pakistani for cheating and it looks like threads are starting uncontrollably a subforum is quickly made for a week or two up the top that lets people discuss the issue up there without clogging the main board. After the issue dies down just merge all threads back into the main board.

A seperate Hot Topic Sub forum sounds like a good idea but will we have enough happening all the time to merit it?

Especially if the player's name in question is one Ricky Thomas Ponting. I'm surprised he hasn't been blamed for global warming (what with all the hot air that gets created).

lol.. way to miss the point of the OP... I could so easily replace Ricky Ponting with BCCI or Lalit Modi as that would be equally valid too..

The point is, CC is in such a state because there are people either side of the line here.. Blokes who seem to think everything Indian is bad and blokes who seem to think everything not Indian is bad....

I've got loads and loads of thoughts here, but haven't got time at the minute to post them. For now I'll just say I agree with Jack that a subforum isn't really the answer - the idea behind reducing the forums a few months back was to go for a 'less is more' approach, fragmenting cricket discussion would be a step backwards. I personally don't like forums where there are 87 different boards and you never know where to find or start the discussion you are looking for, these also become difficult from a moderation POV.

That being said, the hot topic subforum thing is a good idea.

Clear your schedule, what could be more important? :p

Nufan - if you were being serious, take it to another thread. I've deleted your post.
