Don't really see why non-test players should be excluded - comparisons between them and test players are obviously tricky but no more so than the cross-generational comparisons that are the whole point of this

Agreed. I don't see why people who were never afforded the chance to play Test cricket should be excluded, hence why I included Eddie Gilbert, Bart King and Johnny Mullagh in my shortlists (and, in hindsight, should have included Rice and Garth Le Roux).

Obviously, if players were simply perceived as not good enough to play Tests, they shouldn't be making ATG XIs. But when they simply haven't had the opportunity, through no fault of their own, I think they definitely can.

Players who were perceived not good enough to play Tests simply didn't have the opportunity, through no fault of their own too.

Also for the Sim they have 0 wickets and 0 runs which makes them the worst player.

Yeah, it might make it tricky for the sim, but if we're only using 16 teams then this is the last squad that will need legitimate statistics. After the World O, it would probably matter a lot less, unless everyone is keen on a 24-team sim. It does seem strange to be making dream test XI's with players who never played though.

Really? Players who were perceived not good enough to play Tests didn't have the opportunity because they, generally speaking, weren't good enough to play Tests. Apartheid South Africa players, to use one example, didn't have the opportunity because of racist politics.

Given those Le Roux and Rice, for example, were good enough to be picked in World XIs throughout their career, arguably they would be good enough for this.

If we get past the 16 simming teams, I don't understand why it matters.

Yes really. Generally speaking you are right but its not the case always as selectors can make mistakes or chose someone very good and not take a risk. Someone like Darren Berry might have been one of the best keepers of all time, Jamie Siddons could have played like Mark Waugh but went on with his pretty 70s and 137-140 scores and made big scores. David Hussey could have had a sublime Test career but no one is going to pick any of them.

I do feel sorry for the Cricketers who didn't get an opportunity to play Test Cricket or had their careers cut short for varying reasons, but someone like King could have performed like Ramprakash did in Tests.

Its too much guess work for me.
