The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Wet Boxing Day morning here.
Hope you had/are having a great Christmas.

Re Aus pre 1970, I'd pick both MacCartney and Simpson in the top 6 who would be spin back up to O'Reilly so both Grimmett and Benaud would miss out. With McCabe as a 4th seamer and very deep batting, this would be an incredible team.

Simpson
Morris/Trumper
Bradman
MacCartney
Harvey
McCabe
Miller
Davidson
Lindwall
Oldfield
O'Reilly

Obviously a Qld ATG XI. No spinner but with that pace attack who needs one (Border and Labuschagne can do spin)

Classic Queensland stealing as many players who started out in NSW as possible.

I think that Qld pace attack would be better than some ATG Test sides

Lindwall
Thomson
Johnson
McDermott
Watson

Chappell
Border
Labuschagne

I can give up the others but keep your grubby hands off Lindwall, 50 matches up to 53/54 for NSW, 34 for QLD in 54/55-59/60
My ATG team only needs to have played for Qld, dont really care how many they played for other teams before they woke up and moved 😉

Bit of a crack at a Vic XI without much research

Bill Woodfull
Bill Lawry
Neil Harvey
Bill Ponsford
Dean Jones
Brad Hodge
Keith Miller
Shane Warne
Darren Berry
Merv Hughes
Bill Johnston

Damian Fleming/Scott Boland/Paul Reiffel

4 Bills

Keith Miller batting 7, he averaged over 50 in FC cricket. Would play above Hodge at #6 and then allow Allan Hurst as pace bowler

Also proves Vic never had a World class WK or pace attack lol (except Merv)

Symonds for Watson. Gives a bit more spin for the attack too.

Didn't Viv and Botham also play for Queensland? They'd be useful additions.

Line and Length

Cricketer Of The Year
... and a W.A. XI

J.Langer
B.Laird (picked ahead of G.Marsh and G.Wood as he did well against the W.I. ATG attack)
K.Hughes (marginally ahead of A.Voges and R.Edwards)
M.Hussey
D,Martyn
M.Marsh (C.Green not quite there)
R.Marsh
B.Yardley (S.MacGill and B.Hogg unlucky)
D.Lillee
G.McKenzie (could easily be B.Reid)
T.Alderman
