The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

you guys even read the post of mine you quoted for these replies?
Yes. Other than the list of players, literally all the post said was "The "fielding is more important in a 50 over contest than any other format" XI". So we suggested some like for like replacements who are probably better fielders than those you selected.

What point are you trying to make?

btw there's no fkn way I'm gonna listen to someone arguing for Murali over Warne in a fielding XI. whether you think warne belongs or not, there's no way Murali belongs OVER Warne.

As I said, I didn't put much thought into the bowlers. Happy with Jadeja or Harper, both good options.
I always shrug when someone says Murali was a good fielder too. I only saw the second half of his career so he probably was a lot better when he was younger but from what I saw he was one of the worst fielders I saw at international level lol. Like truly atrocious.
In the first half of his career Murali was very athletic and made countless outstanding reflex catches and superb diving stops, along with several quality run outs with his lightening running speed and fast arm. I agree in the second half of his career his fielding wasnt up to much, although "truly atrocious" is a stretch.

Interesting that a number of people are nominating Garner as a great fielder. I don't dispute this view as he was before my time and I have no evidence to the contrary, but as far as I recall this is the first time I have ever heard people discuss his fielding.

I'm sure I'm selectively remembering the worst of it.

Ian Chappell often talks about his reach. Apparently Garner was genuine quality at gully, where he didn't even have to dive to take stunners.

I remember garner proudly claiming in an interview that he has never dropped a catch. I also remember him pouching some serious catches with his quick reflexes and large hands making them look easy all the tine, mostly at gully, and throwing the ball up casually.

Genius in the gully. Guy had a 40 foot wing span and the reflexes of a cat.

Clive Lloyd's another guy who was a brilliant fielder at mid wicket or cover. Plenty of the West Indies of the 70s/80/s/90s were gun fields. Richards, Lloyd and Harper. Garner in gully. Greenidge was a v good slipper. Gus Logie was a gun. Marshall, Holding and Roberts were all good outfielders being such natural athletes. Hooper was good later on.

Gus Logie seems like a proto Jonty

Whippet in the field and between wickets who's batting average doesn't give the full story of his usefulness

Maybe Temba Bavuma also in this category? I've seen him make an amazing run out

Hunte, Solomon, Kallicharan and Nourse were before my watching time, and I did include Hooper.

Would be interested in your opinions on the best fielders you've seen over your time.
