honestly consider Procter and Pollock to have made impacts in test cricket however briefly ha. Which i guess means I should probably omit Barry Richards as he did too

Graeme Pollock had a great Test record. Shorter than he deserved but enough to keep him out of this.

Love the team and love him personally but just feels wrong to pick Hammond as a rep for the 40’s, would be like picking Ponting to represent the 2010’s.

in that case I can make him represent the 30s and go for Compton for the 40s. Headley vs Compton is 50:50 anyways

Given that the criteria was "XI of players who excelled in FC but failed to make a large impact in tests for whatever reason" I think it's enough to totally exclude him.

Here's a variety XI encompassing 11 different styles.

Graeme Smith - gritty, attacking left hander with an unorthodox technique

Len Hutton - textbook technique personified, English grace and solidity

Brian Lara - high back lift, West Indian flair and dominance

Steve Smith - that steel-nerved Australian back-foot play, back and across

Graeme Pollock - stand and deliver, little footwork and no excessive movement

VVS Laxman - subcontinental mastery of spin, wristy elegance and sublime footwork

Adam Gilchrist - modern age destruction and bottom-handed ruthlessness

Wasim Akram - fairly self explanatory, really

Sydney Barnes - a master unlike any other, his style of bowling remains an enigma

Curtly Ambrose - tall, hostile and with steep bounce, the Wasim of seam movement

Muttiah Muralitharan - an unrivalled bag of tricks among spinners, sharp turn either way

I spent more time thinking about this than I'd like to admit.

Problem with Sehwag was I couldn't find an orthodox defensive lefty. I was going for an even 3-3 right/left split in the middle order.
