The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Ponting got dismissed 25 times in India. I am sure there are other spinners who troubled him. Harbhajan humiliated him but Kumble, Raju,Karthik, Mishra troubled him. Most great batsman have some holes in their career but Ponting has a bit more, certainly more than the top 10 batsmen ever. I would put somewhere around 12-15 in the list of ATG batsmen.
Ponting played 14 matches in India. It's not surprising he got dismissed somewhere close to the maximum of 28 times. Three out of four Kumble dismissals were in '98 when he was not quite established, Raju twice, both in '98 and Kartik just once. Mishra never dismissed him. There was one bowler that had him during his peak, and that was Harbahajan (seven times). If we include matches in Australia then Kumble rises to seven times, at an average of 89, while Harbahjan stays at 10 at 22. In comparison Ishant dismissed him four times in India and seven overall, and Zaheer once in India and five overall.

So mostly it's just Harbhajan.

Yes. I was wrong on the Mishra part. Saw Kartik troubling him in Mumbai 2004 but that track was challenging for any batsman.

Ponting scored 664 runs in India at an average of 26 in 25 innings. If you take out 7 Harbhajan dismissals, he averaged around 30 in 18 innings. Seems like every one troubled him here regardless of spin or pace.

A stark contrast to his record in Aus against India. Owned every Indian bowler there.

On a side note, Kohli on a green top vs Alderman or Ponting on a turner vs Laker. Whom will you back to succeed ?

There's no pun there.
I did not mean any pun either :) Have seen Ponting lunge against Harbhajan and getting caught at short leg, then in the next innings he over corrected the same, went right back and was caught plumb in front.

Both the deliveries were of same line and length.

English writers created, groomed and popularized cricket literature for decades. So performances against the England were glorified by them for years. Qadir never belonged in the category of greats except against the inept English middle order and in home conditions where the local umpires were dodgy. Indians treated him the way they always treat leg spinners, with no respect, and that is the true reflection of his abilities. His fame comes from a few English writers exaggerating his skills just because he got the wickets of some weak English batsmen again and again. Had there been good cricket writers from other countries, they would've, probably, written the counter angle challenging the English perspective which is assumed to be the truth
That's enought about Shane Warne. What do you think of Abdul Qadir?

Kohli would probably fail once, then succeed (at least in some form - likely by being wary against Alderman and piling on the runs vs everyone else) on the second time around.
