i wish they had made it to a 20/20 match...than the WI would have more chance to win!!! they would need like 160 or something which is easier to get than 300+ :p

I think the Aussies would enjoy bowling today since the pitch would certainly have something in it for the bowlers (atleast for the first hour) due to all this rain you even expect the outfield to be slow too.

So all in all Aussie shouldn't have too many problems wrapping up the game today (but for that to happen the rain would have to stay away).

i hope it rains tomorow too, to have it reduced some bit, if it favors WI...if not it should just be rained off....

I think Smith didn't bowl as probably Lara thought that Aussies play medium-pace better than spin thats why he tried Samuels and Gayle instead of Smith.

Similar to the way that Lara opted to bowl Smith against Pakistan instead of spin options like Samuels and Gayle (as he might have thought the Pakistan play spin well so they might not be good options).

The benefit of winning the toss is nullified as the match is postponed to next day. I think its gonna take the toll of WI to be in field for three consecutive days, as they play NZ 2morrow. Would like to see NZ catch upon this.

I think AUS gonna take some early wickets(bcoz conditions suit) and that would help them to rap up the west indies batting lineup

Through the WC so far i have observed one thing that though the wickets are flat and even a bit slow but they still have some bounce and carry, thats where i have a feeling someone like Johnson can be a good bowler on such tracks as one of his biggest assets is to make the ball bounce and jump of even a good length.

So i would like to see him play in the game against Bangladesh or Ireland, but his form is a big concern.

I don't see the point of bringing Johnson in. Everyone else is bowling well, there's no need to tamper with anything. Unless Tait goes to pieces or someone gets injured, the attack should stay the same to the end.

i went to bed when Aus were 4/228 and i was like.... thinking about the match in Melbourne against England... had a feeling we'd had a collapse and only make around 270

but Hayden is so good :D seriously when he's in form he's more devestating than Gilly and Ponting because he just doesnt go out!!! remember the matches against India [tests] etc. ... soooooo good :D we are so lucky to have him in form at the perfect time.... he's like a big bonus because i didnt expect Gillys opening partner to be that good...

and wow good stuff from Watto o.O didnt think he could do that...

cant WAIT to watch us bowl!! should be fun
wil it be on ch 9 ?

Chances of an upset are very less IMO, but i think since the Windies have some time off and they now know exactly what they have to do would work in their favour.

So if they come out with a positive intent i would be a bit worried.

no cause the aussies know what they have to do too...so its favors the aussies more because winning the toss is nullified like someone said earlier

Depends on Gayle really. If he gets going like he looked to in the CT final (only took a brilliant ball by Bracken to stop him), everything goes out the window. But I don't think WI have much of a chance tbh. Still abit nervous though.

Anyone know what the TV situation on Foxtel, Nine and ABC is like tonight?

Sri Lanka v/s South Africa today at Guyana, from what i have heard about the pitch there is that its slower than other pitches around in the Caribbean so i guess South Africa won't be too effective on that track.

They were pretty ineffective on a belter.

I dont think so. Given the fact that WI have never done anything close to this before, I think it is a fair statement.

I cant see WI chasing this if they had 10 attempts and therefore it would be a major upset.
They came close to chasing a massive score against India earlier this year, and showed signs of dominating the Australian attack last year. In Kuala Lumpur, the West Indies got to 195-2 after 31 overs and 242-3 after 40. They were only chasing 273 then, but it's a definite sign of the capabilities of this West Indies lineup.

New Zealand chased this sort of total against Australia on more than one occasion earlier this year. And the West Indies batting lineup is more potent than New Zealand's. Note that inconsistency prevents the West Indies lineup from being better than New Zealand's. But it's unquestionably more potent, IMO.

In 10 attempts the West Indies would chase this total precisely 3 times.

EDIT: Regarding never having come close to something like this before, in 2003 the West Indies got to 300-3 to beat South Africa by 7 wickets, with 5 overs to spare. There are other instances of the West Indies scoring big chasing, but this is the most potent example.

:) Brave and optimistic statement. As I pointed out they have chased over 300 precisely 0 times in their 563 ODIs.

If the WI do this I will give them a great deal of credit but I dont think it is a realistic possibility.
