Went to the game tonight. Really enjoyed it - very happy with the result, naturally. The crowd was a little disappointing. I guess the weather turned some people off. But most of the crowd was packed pretty closely together, so there was a decent atmosphere.

I couldn't believe how full the train to Eden Park was. They had to leave some people at Britomart, and it was an extremely uncomfortable trip for those of us who managed to get on board - so much so, in fact, that I decided I'd rather walk back to town after the game than go through it again. So the World Cup, with three times as big a crowd, will be interesting...

Yeah, but they already had Eden Park trains leaving from two platforms, and there are only two tracks to Kingsland...

I don't know the details - but back in vancouver on hockey nights they would just run trains two minutes apart until they cleared all the passengers.

Perhaps the set up of the Auckland rail system prevents this.

Better second half from the Blues, though the Waratahs' weakened squad was certainly shown up. Injury factor could be crucial for next week's match, most likely against the Reds - lots of minor knocks for players on both sides by the looks of it so thats an advantage for the Reds who have the week off (and deservedly so given they topped the table). Thought Ali Williams had his best game of the year and Luke Braid was also generally very strong.
Blues seem to always have the ball in the games that they win.

Warratah's ball handling was not of a Super XV standard. Far too many knock ons dropped balls - lost forwards. The players are big and strong and good defenders. Just have hands of clay.

Thought Beale looked the business.

Williams looked strong in a couple of lineouts. Perhaps he has left his run a bit late for an AB jumper however.

Greasy conditions though and they had a number of second choice players so I wasn't being too harsh on their ball handling. Definitely agreed regarding Beale, had a quieter second half but still a danger whenever in possession. I actually think Ali Williams is a near definite for the ABs - I see Boric, Sam Whitelock and Thorn as the other locks, with Donnelly whos had a very quiet Super Rugby season as the back-up.

Apparently the crowd was only around 16,000 so if you had issues getting to the ground from the city with a crowd that size, I too hate to imagine what the RWC's going to be like with a 60,000 capacity crowd. Sure they can use more buses and run trains more regularly but thats going to turn traffic into a nightmare, as if it already isn't bad enough getting to major events around Auckland.

13-5 at halftime but the Crusaders haven't dominated quite like expected. Sharks have been very physical, similar to their style against the Bulls last week. A few hometown calls from Bryce Lawrence going in the Crusaders' favour too - I'm not sure what was so difficult in arranging neutral refs for these knockout matches.

Fell apart in the second half. Ref was poor and a homer but the Sharks had hands like a bar of soap and the backs were ****. Deserved nothing.

Saders will fancy their chances at Newlands. Already won there with their reserves.

Yup pretty comprehensive second half from the Crusaders. Unlike the Blues, there didn't seem to be any injury worries for the Crusaders arise from the game so they'll have all but Dagg (and possibly McCaw) to select what looks like their full strength XV against the Stormers next week.

Much rather be playing the Blues then the Tahs tbh.

When an Aussie team plays a kiwi or saffa team, it's just the game of rugby you have to win. When it's against another Aussie team, it's the head game as well.

Should be a cracking game on saturday. Robinson made a 40 minute cameo in club rugby yesterday and picked up MOTM honours, going to be a good battle bewteen Higgers/Robinson against Braid/Braid/Kaino

Saracens hooker, Schalk Brits has joined up with the Stormers for Saturday's game against the Crusaders. Brits however will play loose forward, replacing the injured Duane Vermeulen. Great chance for Brits to stake a claim for a WC berth and a top replacement for Vermeulen. SA Under-20 loose forward Siya Kolisi was the initial replacement for Vermeulen but he was mugged on the weekend and is pretty beat up.
