Hammond was a good guy?
I wouldn’t necessarily say good.

He was always a bit of a loner, a bit aloof. Of course, he was a massive slut too, cheated on his wife. But apparently they barely even spent any time together before their marriage. I won’t pretend to be an expert on relationships back then but if he was born a few decades later I’ve no doubt he’d never marry her and keep living it up til he found a beauty queen like he eventually did.

The whole Bradman overshadowing him thing isn’t just a joke either. Apparently it had a pretty serious effect on him and he had quite an obsession with him (not surprising).

Easily rather him than Gavaskar though.

You have to catch the pattern, the comment after Hooks' death was racist, we know he has no problems demonizing an entire region from west indies, and then he goes out and is blatantly disrespectful to a guy who just died, just shows the type of person he is.
Comment made post Warne's death wasn't racist at all. Tone deaf given situation? Yes. But it wasn't racist now, comeon

Yup, never really felt like he was a terrible person tbh.

He's shot himself in the foot with this dumb argument because it now makes viv look less great . Hilarious.
He was trying to protect Tendulkar because Tendulkar averages the same as Lara against Donald/Wasim but has some ATG knocks so he put extra emphasis on hundreds

read what I said again.
I read it, and just don't think the comment works. The host directly asked him whether Warne is the Greatest Spinner Ever and he gave an honest answer in place of a diplomatic one. Given situation, a huge dick move. But nothing to point racism there.

Lol looking at what Gavaskar said in his apology after his Hookes remarks

Gavaskar also addressed his earlier comments about the Australian team - that they were "not popular winners" because of sometimes "awful" on-field behaviour - which drew a sharp response from Ponting. "What I was trying to say, the West Indies in the 1970s and 80s ... they were winning just about everything, but they were universally admired," he said. "There are so many champions who are universally admired, like your Rod Laver, today there is Roger Federer. The Australian team can also be universally admired if they can only curb their behaviour on some occasions."

I don’t recall the Windies team being universally admired. But maybe I’m wrong. I seem to recall a fair bit said about their bowling tactics. He is right about the tennis players though. Maybe he should switch to tennis commentating.

let's say it was Anil Kumble who had died, would he give the same answer or be as crass/rude as he was?

It was a classic question someone would ask in the wake of a celebrated athlete’s death. Sunny has been in broadcasting and sports far too long to not have known better. “He was definitely one of the greatest spinners, and he will be missed”. Not hard to be tactful.

He didn't just say Warne wasn't the greatest he said some Indian spinners were better than him.
Yeah he did. Which is just a **** opinion because Warne failed vs India (so he infact might rate Kumble higher). The tangent he went on was really weird as well. But don't think that's necessarily racist.

Again, a dick move.
