An update, many interesting games to report on.

OD friendly, AX-W v Moooo: a reminder of why Wellington stopped playing these one-day friendlies, with this thrashing handed to us. Terrific work from the cows to pile up 405-9. The opening partnership was 170, before Hammad Uzair got out for 90 in just the 24th over. Despite poor touch, he's also scored a 136 and 95 in his last five innings, all at an SR of over 130. Uzair's opening partner, Bart Way, anchored the innings with his 114 (132). Hitting brought the total up and up, despite a pretty decent bowling attack. A vintage AX-W top-order implosion ensued, to leave Felix O'Callaghan with only the tail to support him. A classic wag got Cally his 4th career hundred, because of course it did. 86-6 to 222-10, not near enough however lol.

T20 friendly, AXI v Ashgrove: 48-run AA opening partnership became 109 all out, with a collapse that I can't help but believe was spurred by Hlengwa's first-baller. That ball was sent down by Ollie Smit, who snared 5-8 at 5.8 BQ. Rusty hit a six-laden 55 not out in response to help win it for AXI with 47 balls to spare.

CWC5A, AX-W v Jura: better than normal! They only made 210, wow. And we breached 140! Saleem Salman compiled 86* (53). In response, AX-W started with a 15-run opening over. En route to a 19-ball half-century, 34yo Dan Price hit five consecutive fours in the 5th over. From there it went downhill, but good signs for a struggling team.

CWC5B, AXI v Shri: we made 167, they made 92.

OD friendly, AXI v Morpork: a certain Jedi entered in the first over, exited in the final, and only barely managed to strike at 50. 204-6 from DyM, due presumably to defensive orders, wasn't near enough on a pancake pitch. We batted a little slowly also, until Kurt Murdoch lit up to make the most of his 18 touch. I was reconsidering his place in the side before this 78* (56). Interesting to see van Heerdens taking on the mantle of premier spinner.

OD friendly, AX-W v Theorists: we managed, with runs from throughout the order, to post 264-7. Strong stuff from W. Ide, with 26 runs without facing a ball. Also lol at TNT playing four offies. 60-odds off 66 balls from Kelvin Hartley and Zaki Bilal were compiled in a 123-run partnership, but from there on wickets fell at regular intervals. Fungai Mabika couldn't find required support, and 206ao off 38 overs was the result.

Dev friendly, AXI v Orangutans: both teams rate over 50K in this encounter of behemoths. In AXI's side, every player has 30 skill in at least one discipline, which definitely helps. 16 players also aids this situation. In his 101st match in the format, Todii fought well to make over half his side's runs, but fell short of a maiden century. Runs from Saadi, Dee, Rusty, and Butler contributed to a two-wicket win.

Thanks for the games, all. :)

Nah no real special orders except maybe a bit low MAS at 141 and Hughes coming in at five instead of opening, that was a clear mistake. I think your bowlers just bowled well and JedI was just too focused on "be there at the end". And I had no time to rotate the bowling attack for the conditions.

A MAS of 141 "a bit low"? Only once have I ever set a MAS lower than 180 for SODs, I think - that was 150 (?) and resulted in Shawn Dee playing the Jedi role, us making 205-ish and losing. So same as this match, really. This was against the Orangutans pre-thembeinggood; the scorecard is lost now unfortunately.

Yea I never set an MAS that low unless it's an absolute minefield.

ZCC gambling a bit in today's SOD game. With the Cup game on Sunday in mind, we have opted to rest Chung Yiu and Danial Ahsan, and have dropped Raun Shkorer down to 5. Abdul Younis and Taufeeq Bashir (both U21) step up to fill the gaps. Also have picked Tim Chester ahead of Harry Hadden.

Bowling first and have taken an early wicket, hopefully we skittle them cheaply and chase it quick for minimal fitness hit

That match we played against ATX-W, I wanted Way and Uzair to open. Uzair’s been more of a floater and I wanted to give him a permanent spot at the top of the batting order. So far he’s been excellent. This allows me to drop Meyiwa to number 3 and gives much more flexibility to the batting order.

And they’ve been kicking GG’s *** lately.

Charminster 104/0 after 9.1 overall v Moo -a pleasant surprise from a Charminster side who after starting decently have struggled losing to Shri a few games ago

Just to put into context how devastating this loss was - we had them 57/4 in 19 overs, and then 113/5 in 32. But then Samra dropped a catch, Chester took some tap, and suddenly they were 216/5 in 44 overs. Then Younis dropped another catch, and proceeded to get thumped bowling two overs in the death - I expected the tailenders to be batting at this point. 294 was their final score.

We then lost both Shahboss and Sajith early, recovered to 72/2, and then lost Younis, Raun first ball, and then Samra all in the space 6 balls. A thumping loss was avoided by a career-best 88 from Ghous Ghani and a useful 42 by Jalal, but we still lost the bonus point. Ghani also took a massive fitness hit, which possibly ****s up our balance for the Cup game tomorrow. Jalal also struggling. Sigh.

CWC5 Week 13 round-up:

1657989814306.png

An upset win for TBI throws the cat into the pigeons, as it puts them and Dynamo Morpork back into the race for 1st place in Group A! On a minefield of a pitch, they battle hard to put 135 up on the board, after which Vinit and Shikha tear through the ZCC batting, earning the Wild Geese the bonus point as well! Astronauts and Morpork consolidate their positions with comfortable wins, while the Pirates are yet to open their account - Chunky hammering 69 and then taking 3/10 as the Hunks cruise to victory.

1657989990912.png

AXI maintain their top spot with a comfortable win over GG CC, who continue to slip further down the table. Meanwhile Schmaltzberg's campaign receives a massive boost as they topple the higher-ranked Winton CC, on the back of a spectacular ton by Krishan Illesinghe and 4 wickets from Will Scott! Charminster CC put up an impressive showing with the bat to pile on 184 against Moooo, but the bovine bashers make short work of the chase on the back of Bart Way's 77*. TMO pick up a comfortable 2 points against SCT to round off today's games.

1657990184735.png
Group A is a league of two halves, with 5 teams in the hunt for the Championship Playoffs, and a whopping 24 points separating 5th and 6th place! ZCC's unbeaten run has come to an end, while Morpork and TBI have strung together impressive win streaks of their own. The Astronauts and JCC are still in with a chance for a Top 3 finish, so there is all to play for as we head into the final quarter. Another interesting battle to keep an eye on will be between the Hunks and AXW for that 3rd spot in the Plate playoffs!

1657990651038.png
In Group B the three tiers have started to separate slightly, though plenty of movement is still possible. AXI become the first team to cross 50 points in CWC5, and are on the verge of becoming the first team to book a spot in the Championship Semi-Finals!
