As you have seen the trend.... You're actually totally on point. I am Indian, have grown up hearing about stories of these Indian players; hence I tend to rate them higher than many non-Indians does. Is it biased? Yeah, to an extent definitely. Though mate, you also tends to do the same for many West Indian players.....
Umm, everyone has inherent biases, especially string in these parts.

That being said, I don't think I have any views that goes against the grain, especially with regards to WI players.

Even in this poll, I went Waugh. Even though if you went by contemporary ratings, it's really close. There are some posters that goes their nationality 100%, I try to be fair.

I go hard for Marshall, but from anecdotal evidence, I would say about 60% of this forum also thinks he's the best.

The remainder of my frustrating traits have nothing to do with the WI. My perceived dislike of Sutcliffe (ok that one's possibly true) and Imran (definitely not) and my constant push to elevate the status of slip fielding.

Depends on the conditions really. Ponting would scare me more on a flat/bouncy pitch but Dravid would scare me on a seaming/spinning pitch.
I'd take Ponting on a flat pitch too because of his ability to push the game on. Will give his bowlers more time. Especially if the opposition attack has some depth which is hostile to a batter of Dravid's tempo/strategy.

I used to really, really like Sutcliffe, until I started digging deeper and taking into account this pesky thing called context.

Doesn't rate Viv, but loves Barrington and Sutcliffe.... Thinks Davidson is better than Lillee, ummmmm.

It's not about slow scorers, you just rate by average.... And before the question, no, nothing wrong with that.

For me it isn't that close, and I guess that's because Dravid never scared me, Ponting did.
It's not just about Dravid or Gavaskar, I inherently have a weak spot for players like Boycott and Barrington as well...... I just find players with high patience and temperament in general more attractive (and dare I say useful) than classy attacking players.

I also think Marshall is the best pacer of all time; but I do think outside of CW it's not a commonly acknowledged fact; with his main competitor being players like Lillee and Akram (for some reason, McGrath goes pretty underrated there also). I just think that, as I said in my previous reply; I kinda have a thing for batsmen like Gavaskar, Boycott, Dravid and Barrington. It's not just my nationality; it's that + my liking for such players. (Ps- Also, I think spinners of same quality as pacers tends to average higher; (Warne 25, Kumble 29, etc.) that might make it seem I rate Indian spinners too high).

8-)

And thank you for confirming your inability to read any of my posts.

Anyway, Waugh > Weekes, despite Weekes having a higher average!

I was specifically responding to the previous posts in this thread and responding tongue in cheek, but proceed as u do regardless.

To each their own and I'm aware all players have their usefulness.

But I fail to see how they are more attractive or useful. They can end up disadvantaging their team or putting them behind the 8 ball just as readily as they can help.
Yes a quicker scorer can get our earlier, but so can the slower batsman, but while an aggressive player is at the crease they can only be an asset.
