Interesting that Warne clearly won the spinner slot over Murali in the 1986-2005 XI, but here it's turned around :(

btw, how come no-one has mentioned murali's extremely career inflating record against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe (or maybe I missed it) ;)

vs Bagladesh: 6 tests, 50 wkts @ 12.52 (7/2) SR 28.6

vs Zimbabwe: 14 tests, 87 wkts @ 16.86 (6/2) SR 54.2
Already been mentioned and if you saw my previous posts you'd see how his home record has inflated him also.

In light of this current news it puts this comparison in an even more clearer light for me. As someone said before: "One is an artisan, the other is a carpenter".

Err, Zimbabwe wasn't always crap.

Some of these Bangladeshi batsmen actually play spin better then most NZ'ers.

Interesting Warne announcing his retirement and he gets a flood of votes. Did someone text him about this thread?

Went Murali to even it up, but it's bum on fence for me really.

Slightly surprised to not see AMZ's notepad file just quietly.

Haha, probably shouldn't have thrown in a protest vote

Don't do a rematch, just have 'Murali/Warne' in the XI imo.

Sure. Put Murali/Warne in the XI and have Murali/Warne as an option for the final bowler.
Once they get voted in, we can stick to Murali and Warne rather than Murali/Warne and Murali/Warne.

I say just can the final bowler vote and have these two in. Only an idiot wouldn't have both in the sides. Especially will all the all rounder options seamers.

I thought the same thing.

In any case the tie, imo, is an indication of a slow shift towards Murali on CW over the years. Over the years (at least the 2 1/2 I have been a reader and poster) Warne always seemed to win these polls and arguments quite convincingly, but it is getting closer and closer as time goes on. :)

Maybe in a year or two, Murali will be the clear winner as more and more evidence comes to light that he may be clearly (at least statistically) the superior bowler.

As per the tie though, both should be included, it would be lunacy not to.

(There are few pacers 46 - 05 worthy to massage their fingers)

Yup, both Warne and Murali definitely deserve to be in an all-time XI.
Exactly, it would be like leaving the two best batsmen in history out of your team.

When it's a comparison with Warne then I think he is 2nd. I am questionable about the dealings with his actions also, but apart from that there is no problem I have with Murali.
