South Africa team selection

Yeah Klaaaen definitely seemed like a Conrad pick. The initial dropping of Verreynne when he scored a couple of fifties in AUS said as much. I am concerned about the move to revert to a 5 bowler strategy with Jansen at 7. Perhaps he has lost faith in the Mulder/Muthusamy role at 7 and felt that Jansen could contribute just as much with the bat.

I am not a big fan of Shukri Conrad, he loses faith in players so much you'd swear he was an atheist 😂

The Mulder predicament is a self fulfilled prophecy. I don't know if we are ever going to get the best of him at International level. I never liked what he wanted to do with Muthusamy either, but I think they might take him on SC tours since Linde is out of favour.

The hardus Viljoen omission from the test squad is now clear. He was likely already in talks to replace anrich nortje if he wasn't fit.
Anrich now officially ruled out of the SA20 and hardus Viljoen named as replacement.

Best decision for the squad, hopefully they can now only concentrate on cricket.
Maybe he should have thought about his team mates before making himself a target.

Well dont get your hopes up, this team won only one game in a recent tri series at home. Which included India and Afghanistan, and yes they lost to Afghanistan as well

If Teeger has been stripped of the captaincy because they're worried about protestors do they think these protestors will be appeased with that? They'll probably still take umbrage that he's in the squad at all.

CSA has erred in bowing to threats of violence (if these are even credible).

We would all have rightly been appalled if the AWB or something threatened to protest at matches because Lungi Ngidi supported BLM, and would have been even more appalled if CSA decided to leave out Ngidi because of threatened protests.

idk much about your country’s political environment but isnt there a big difference between Ngidi supporting BLM and Teeger dedicating an award to soldiers who are involved in a war to say the least?

I'm talking about being threatened by protestors.

One can disagree with what Teeger said, and I said on this forum he should probably have kept his views to himself, but CSA didn't take away the captaincy at the time. He was cleared of wrongdoing and he retained the captaincy but it's now been taken away because of security issues. That, to me, is the problem.

Khawaja essentially wanted to make a statement from the other angle and was pretty swiftly stamped on by the authorities.

In a conflict as contentious and complicated as this one, probably best for sportspeople to keep quiet.

We don't know what is going on behind the scenes... it could even be the man himself asking not to be captain. Who knows what pressure he has been under? If you take them at their word they have credible threats of violence, during a U19 WC tournament, and the protests have been ongoing, and unfortunately the young man has become a target for the protest stupidities. It does not feel like they have stripped him of his captaincy it feels more like they are erring on the side of caution and hoping everything calms down.

I think that they key element is that both Khawaja and Teeger were supporting (in their different ways) the ‘wrong’ side from their governments’ perspective.

Sportsmen are of course entitled to express their views on current events intheir private capacity however I would draw the line at their so doing on the field or at an official function.

Not the same thing. This kid said something in a community event. Khawaja wanted to make a statement during an international cricket match run or sanctioned by the ICC. The former does not need any approval from ICC or even CSA. The latter does.
