Wish Bresciano was 10 years younger. Top player, but lost that yard of pace. Still has great vision though.

Cruse and Orr provide some decent pace in attack for us on the flanks.

Was so good to see Lucas Neil get a goal at long last!

Love it seeing Shockeroo fans thump their chest after beating a poor Jordan side at home.

Australia may qualify for the world cup but they are a crap team - still way too reliant on the class of 06.
They'll get hammered at the World Cup if they meet a half decent side.

Why do you hate everything Australian? Cricket team is one thing, have been guilty of **** behaviour in the past, but the Socceroos?

Oh and God forbid Australian fans get behind their national team. Someone who loves football such as yourself should enjoy the sport becoming more and more popular in this country.

The worst bit about this is when I saw you posted in this thread I knew you'd make a post hating on the team. Such is your usual style of pissing on Australian teams. Just ridiculous.

Whatever gets you hard.

A bit disrespectful to Jordan there. They have some quality individuals, and even beat Japan I think.

No-one's claiming that the Socceroos are particularly good, but football is the biggest sport in the world, and the World Cup is the biggest event. To be part of that in any way is massive. Pretty optimistic with the younger players coming through and the growth of the A-League too.

It's sad that I completely agree with you, and it makes me feel dirty.

It really annoys me how people are with the Socceroos now. Most of them know absolutely nothing about what they're preaching, and I know for a fact that they weren't there when we were completely ****.

Iunno. I am still a big fan and will be crazy about it when the WC comes around but I'm so jaded by the Australian sports culture at the moment. Idiots on tv as "expets" validating the opinions of other idiots.

That's a natural reaction for people who were there during the "bad times" but is it fair to say that for the Socceroos to be popular and for football to increase in popularity in Australia there needed to be a bandwagon? By definition, for it to become a huge sport there needs to be new fans yeah? Of course those new fans should not pretend like they bleed Socceroos or something (I don't) but nevertheless better to see people at the games in big numbers, even if most of them are **** ****s?

Love to leave it late :p

Shows the quality of the side though, dug in and kept pushing and eventually got the goal.

I think this side has the potential to match the one of 06, and on a good day maybe even better it. Young guys like Kruse, Oar, Rogic are good, and provide flare which the team has never really had (probably together with having a German coach). From what I've seen guys like Schwarzer and Bresciano are basically as good as they were too. A key one for me though will be Cahill. Haven't been very impressed, and I think he is definitely on the decline, so it will be interesting to see how he fares.

Was at the game tonight , and thought that both teams put on an excellent show considering the heavy rain and a sub-standard pitch better suited to Rugby. Australia started strong but faded after 20 minutes and then the game tilted Iraq's way because they controlled the ball better without being overly dangerous. At half-time Iraq's possession was 51%.

The second half was a dour and frustrating affair with the Iraq players spending a lot of time feigning injury to slow the play down. With about 15-20 mins left the coach made a triple substitution which ultimately decided the game. Cahill was visibly irritated when Kennedy replaced him, but it was Kennedy's header across the face of the goal to wrong foot the keeper that proved the clincher. Kudos to Bresciano who crossed the ball with pin-point accuracy from the right of the penalty box. Five minutes after Kennedy's goal Iraq could have equalised if the striker had selected to shoot rather than play the ball square to his support player who was then tackled. Why he didn't shoot from the edge of penalty box, I don't know.

All in all a damned good evening!

I don't care how rubbish this team is or if they get flogged at the WC, the Iran match was one of the most heartbreaking sporting moments I've experienced so I'm ecstatic any time we qualify.
