Lucky South Africa

South Africa were very lucky to survive that second test, very lucky
The umpires were a joke i would sack them on the spot
England should win the next test match though, easily
Cmon the England

Simon Jones is better

Is this person the ugliest person to have walked Earth, please reply

Thank You

He bowled better than normal in that match, but still not anywhere near as well as his figures suggested.
He got 1 good wicket, 2 tail-enders and 1 poor decision.
Not particularly good in my book, and followed by the by-and-large dross he's bowled in this game it's not particularly special.
Of course, the next 1-and-3\4 hours could totally change all that.
doubt it, he was only unfortunate enough to have been bowling to tailenders in that spell, because IMO he would have got any batsman out with that spell of bowling. with regard to his performance this inning, at least hes been accurate, although he really hasnt gotten much from the pitch or the conditions.

Exactly - and not getting much from the pitch or conditions is a failing that will usually lead to not taking wickets.
Maybe he was unfortunate to be bowling to tail-enders in the spell - I'll not deny that he bowled some good balls.
Once again, all that can be said is that we must wait and see - because bowling your only decent spells at tail-enders is a rather worrying thing to do. And no, I'm not saying he's done it lots, if ever before - just that until he bowls consistently spells that take the wickets of top-order batsmen he's not proven much.

i agree with that, but i personally have the confidence that he will go on to achieve this feat, i see no reason why not, i rate him highly enough, as do the selectors it would seem.(or will do in time :p)

I see reasons why not: improving accuracy is an extremely difficult thing to do.
So I think I'm wise in saying that until he does, I won't believe he's going to do.

We can't say that it will get better for Jones - he's still hardly been awe-inspiring this innings.
If he goes out and bowls a heap of crap tomorrow he'll get criticised and quite rightly.

18-69-1 - the pick of such a fantastic bunch, really.
Not, of course, that he was even that ITE - Flintoff and Hoggard got better figures.

On the first day, by consent of the professionals, he was the pick.

Of course, you will no doubt disagree seeing as you think you know more about the game than they do.

and how many times do i have to say it? i havent said that hes a proven test class bowler, not many are after playing such a limited number of games. im simply saying that he has a lot of potential.
with regard to the last test, one must remember that no one can do well on the flattest of pitches. there are some pitches where the best you can do is be accurate and hope that something happens. which is precisely what he did.

and there are times when you bowl well and are unlucky, which seems to be the case here. needless to say that its quite impossible to expect 4 wicket hauls on the flattest slowest wicket of the tour. you yourself have said that he wont succeed at the international level if hes not accurate, yet when he has been accurate hes still being criticised.

So once again, really, we're down to the "we've just got to wait and see" again.
I'll repeat the fact that I've never shouted down anyone who said he's got potential - simply said I don't know that it's as certain he's as likely to turn-out a good player as some think.

Because often he follows being accurate with going for 5-an-over.

It probably doesn't alter the bigger picture, but at least Jones has managed to bowl effectively today without resorting to the high & wide tactics of the others. AFAICS anyway - I've only had access to Cricinfo most of the time.
