Should India lose ICC test ranking points for refusing to play Pakistan?

Not like this is a one-off.

But there should be stronger laws against not touring certain sides despite the FTP telling them to. If they don't have to follow it, what's the point of having an FTP?

Can we stop being flippant here? It's a matter of international diplomacy. We can have an opinion on whether the cricketing ties between the two nations, but to come here and post in the usual "hate everything related Indian cricket" mode is forgetting that behind all this lies an event (in fact a series of events) where innocent people have lost life, several got permanently disabled and many families are living a life harder than we can imagine. Act mature guys.

You have got high expectations.. :p

On topic, a lot of the guys talking here have no idea about what happened between the two nations and are basically voicing opinions that no one is gonna give any sort of respect to... At the end of the day, when the Governments are happier with each other, these series will happen. IF not, it is not the BCCI or the Indian Cricket Team's fault and they don't need to pay any penalties for that.

The latest news going around is BCCI has once again given cold shoulder to PCB regarding the resumption of billaterial ties and the March-Aprail 2012 series looks unlikely as the GOI looks unlikely to give clearance to BCCI for any future series.

Now if my memory is not playing tricks with me didn't England refuse to play Zimbabwe during the 03 WC they had to forfeit their game and the points were awarded to Zimbabwe now how is the situation different to that and should not the same rules apply over here?

Would like to get some perspective from both sides and more importantly from the neutral. I know this is a sensitive topic but still lets try and keep discussion civil over here.:)
First let me say that I would want to India-Pakistan bilateral test series, and would like Indian Government and BCCI to support that. I don't support BCCI's decision to not play Pakistan. Period.

BUT, it shouldn't fetch any penalty from ICC. A bilateral test series is not an ICC event, and it requires the cricket boards of both countries to agree to play it. For example, if Australia doesn't want to play a test series against Bangladesh that's their call.

In short, while BCCI not wanting to have a test series between India and Pakistan can't be termed an offence I don't support BCCI's decision.

It's a completely different situation to Eng/Zim as that was part of the WC, a fixed ICC tournament, and not a bilateral series.

No different to India's refusal to host Bangladesh for Tests.
I've always wondered why B-desh never toured India but we toured there like 3-4 times already. Why have India refused to host B-desh?
India hasn't refused to host Bangladesh AFAIK. Infact, it is the other way round and Bangladesh would rather host India every time, as they can put up more of a fight + make a lot more money with T.V rights specifically.

IIRC we refused to host Zimbabwe in 09 due to government pressure. Think they may have also prevented from playing the T20? Can't remember

Yeah, but we hosted them only last year and then in 2005 before that. How come India have gotten away with it when (let's be honest here) it was mainly at their behest Bangladesh were invited to the top table anyways.

& Ten years between series still seems too often.
Bangladesh board is more happy with India touring there more often, instead of them coming here. And India has gone there quite often for both ODI series as well as some tests.

Infact, their Television contract for matches in Bangladesh with Nimbus is largely based on more regular tours by India.

Is there a reason why it can't be held at a neutral venue a long way from any trouble spots, like England or Australia?

No offence but hosting Pakistan matches as a generous offer by England should never happen again after what they did a few weeks after we did it. Talk about ****ting on your hosts.

That would only happen if its a home series for PCB, but BCCI reckons that the 2009 series was cancelled and not postponed and the next installment is a home series for India.

But like I posted, the limiting factor is the government clearance which is a sensitive issue. All others are minor disagreements which can easily be ironed out.

AFAIK, the government is against any bilateral series anywhere against Pakistan. The venue is not even an issue. Why do you guys keep bringing it up?
