I don't know what's that supposed to mean? Root also did very well in South Africa in 2016, that doesn't erase his record in Australia, I think Ponting before 2001 was pretty skilled against spin tbh.

Probably, Australia remains the only hole in Root's record, but as you once said all you need to fix a statistic is a great series, like Lara and Tendulkar in south Africa, so let's see if he does it too
Sangakkara in England is another and he only needed two Tests.

Root's numbers aren't so catastrophic that a good series doesn't turn it around, there is a decent base there but conversion a massive issue. Would need to analyse it more closely but feels like his favoured release shot, the dab through gully, gets him in trouble on Australian wickets.

Well Sanga in England isn't really a success per se but it isn't a failure thanks to his last great series. More par for the course as a top bat.
Lara's average in Australia stood at 37 before his last match there where he scored a double ton. Do you consider him a success or a failure there

Lara in Australia a failure? 💔
Lara in 93 was a good series thanks to his Sydney knock.

After that was two poor series in 96 and 2000 against the ATG Aus side largely thanks to McGrath owning him.

Then the Adelaide knock in 2005 to save what would have been another disappointing series.

I don't consider the above an impressive record.

It's completely fine

he had a match winning knock in Perth in 96 and was struggling with shoulder issues in 2000 series where he still made a brilliant hundred.

big series in 93 and 05 obviously

Up to you. In the macro, he had one meaningful knock per series and a lot of owning at the hands of McGrath in between.

41 in Australia isn't some sterling average and frankly it flatters him since he realistically averages sub-40 against Aus when they were no.1 from 1995 onwards.

Also I find it funny that Aus 2005 is used as an example of a good series for Lara when it's basically just the 226 knock.

Whereas I don't think we would call Tendulkar in Aus in 2003 a 'good series' despite him averaging 76 when he was struggling in the first three tests before he scored his double.
