You can make all the alterations you want,he still isn't as good as most people say he is.
Harmison is an integral part of the England attack - and any one of the four would get into any test side in the world at the moment.

Everyone gets to play against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh a couple of dozen times over the next couple of seasons?

Martyn was seriously out of form and needs more time back in the domestic game.
wouldn't say Martyo was out of form, he got a lot of bad decision & if you look at the manner of his dismissals he got himself out to poor shots or the odd misjudement i.e 1st innings edgbagston. Rather than him not being able to combat the england bowler a la Hayden.

Here are Harmy's last few series:

1. England in Bangladesh, 2003/04 [Series]
Eng 1 0 0 0.00 0 0 9 5/35 8.77 1 0 0
2. The Wisden Trophy (Eng/WI) in West Indies, 2003/04 [Series]
Eng 4 21 13 5.25 0 0 23 7/12 14.86 2 0 0
3. New Zealand in England, 2004 [Series]
Eng 3 0 0 0.00 0 0 21 4/74 22.09 0 2 0
4. The Wisden Trophy (Eng/WI) in England, 2004 [Series]
Eng 4 80 36* 26.66 0 0 17 6/46 29.52 1 0 0
5. Basil D'Oliveira Trophy (Eng/SA) in South Africa, 2004/05 [Series]
Eng 5 96 42 24.00 0 0 9 3/91 73.22 0 0 0
6. Bangladesh in England, 2005 [Series]
Eng 2 - - - - - 10 5/38 20.10 1 1 0
7. The Ashes (Aus/Eng) in England, 2005 [Series]
Eng 5 60 20* 10.00 0 0 17 5/43 32.29 1 1 0
8. ICC Super Series Test Match (Aus/ICC) in Australia, 2005/06 [Series]
Aus 1 1 1 0.50 0 0 4 3/41 25.25 0 0 0
9. England in Pakistan, 2005/06 [Series]
Pak 3 29 16 9.66 0 0 12 3/37 32.41 0 0 0

There's basically one bad series there. Try again folks.
1. Bangladesh.
2. West Indies on bowlers' pitches.
3. Fair enough... perhaps.
4. Lucky to average that. Nice payoff in the last Test...
5. Wonderful.
6. Bangladesh.
7. Helped greatly by the good bowling conditions he got in the first Test, so don't go lamenting his exclusion from the attack in bowling conditions in the last Test.
8. One Test is not a series.
9. He can average this much in each series against quality opposition from now on and it won't prove anything from your side of the point.

10. La la la la la la la la la oo oo 00.

It's really because things have changed so much lately, and as much as Harmison is not as great a bowler as some seem to praise him to be, he's still a fair deal better than Lee in my book. Rumour has it that Gillespie has changed careers too, so that presents the opening in the Australian team. James Anderson would walk into the West Indies team, so that's another right there. James Kirtley would walk into the Bangladesh team. James Blunt would frolic into the Zimbabwe team. Harmison > Agarkar, Rana Naved, Mohammad Sami, Zoysa, Fernando, Maharoof, Franklin, Mills, Tuffey - India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand.

I'd only contest South Africa really. I'd take any of Pollock/Ntini/Nel ahead of Harmison UNLESS the intention was to pick someone to displace him from the current England attack. In that case, I'd only pick Ntini/Nel ahead of him.

Tendulkar wasn't at his best in 2004. He averaged 91.50 that year. You don't have to play at your best for your average to improve.
